Ohio State is the undisputed top team in the country, in large part because of its impenetrable defense. The Buckeyes have allowed just 41 points through six games, its fewest since 1975.
Ohio State has now beaten three straight conference opponents that had winning records, two of which came on the road. And while it ranks in the top 10 in the country in offensive efficiency, taking on a Wisconsin team that allowed 37 points to a pedestrian Iowa offense, the Badgers’ inability to score in this contest has me backing the Under.
Wisconsin cannot seem to settle on a quarterback, using Danny O’Neil, Billy Edwards Jr., and Hunter Simmons. The trio has combined for a 6-8 TD-INT ratio and just a 6.7 yards per attempt average. And the Badgers cannot rely on a normally potent rushing attack (they average just 3.1 yards per carry) to move the ball.
I rushed to FanDuel to place this wager on Sunday night, as it was the only top sports betting site offering a total of 42.5, while all other competitors were a point lower at 41.5. Through the -110 odds that carry a 52.38% implied probability, a $10 wager would net $9.09 in profits if the Under cashes.

Given that Wisconsin is coming off its first home shutout loss since 1980, the initial point spread line movement is surprising. Ohio State was bet as high as -28.5, but the line has since come back down through the key number, and is at -27 or -27.5 across the market. This is likely to end up as a “pros vs. joes” matchup, with the public backing the undefeated Buckeyes and the sharps siding with the home ‘dogs. Wisconsin has covered each of the last two home meetings as double-digit underdogs against Ohio State dating back to 2019.So far FanDuel is the only top sports betting site to see its total move off the opening number of 41.5. But the Under has cashed in four of the previous five meetings between these teams, which is why I expect 41.5 to be the most common number prior to kickoff, and is why I took advantage of the extra point of value early.
