Looking ahead to another weekend of college football picks, my early LSU vs. Ole Miss prediction expects the explosive offense of the Rebels to challenge the Tiger defense in ways that Clemson and Florida simply weren’t capable of doing.

I’m already getting started with my college football predictions for Week 5, as I see early value on the point spread with Ole Miss listed as a 2.5-point betting favorite.

The action for LSU vs. Ole Miss kicks off from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Miss., on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET (ABC).

Stay ahead with the rest of our early college football predictions.

🦈 Ole Miss -2.5 (-110) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

LSU’s defense has been one of the best in the country, allowing no more than 10 points in any of its first four games. But the challenge of the dynamic Ole Miss offense is one that the Tigers haven’t witnessed yet.

While wins over Clemson and Florida were impressive for LSU when they happened, opinions on the quality of those respective offenses have aged like milk. Clemson and Florida have combined to average just 30.8 PPG against FBS competition.

Ole Miss ranks 10th in the nation at 44.8 PPG. The Rebels are even more potent at home, averaging 49.7 PPG in Oxford. Meanwhile, the LSU offense - which has scored a paltry 20.0 PPG across three FBS matchups - is being questioned even when Brian Kelly doesn’t want it to be. LSU won’t be able to keep pace in this one.

FanDuel is offering Ole Miss -2.5 at -110 odds, which implies a 52.38% probability the Rebels will cover and pays a $9.09 profit on a $10 winning bet.

🔍 LSU vs. Ole Miss odds analysis

Ole Miss opened as a 1.5-point favorite, and we’ve seen the line move already to -2.5, with 65% of wagers coming in on Ole Miss.

Ole Miss feels like the right side for any margin below a field goal, as their prowess on offense should make the Rebels one of the few units to pierce through an LSU defense that is playing at a high level, but against lesser competition, through four games.

Although it’s always possible to see the line move back the other way - and that feels more likely than does a move past the key number of 3 - I like the Rebels at home with a line of -3 or better, so I wouldn’t hesitate to bet this line early in the week.

How do college football odds work?

When betting on college football odds, the point spread shows how many points the favorite needs to win by in order to cash the bet. For example, a favorite of -3 must win by more than 3 points to cover the spread, while an underdog at +3 must win outright or lose by fewer than 3 points to cover the spread.

Moneyline odds represent the payout for picking the outright winner (+200 means a $100 bet wins $200, while -200 means a $200 bet wins $100). Over/Unders let you wager on whether the combined total will be higher or lower than the set number.
