Despite reaching a bowl game, Coastal Carolina fired Beck after the program closed the season with three straight losses while being outscored 157 to 55. Now, interim head coach Jeremiah Johnson leads a team dealing with several key injuries and its two best offensive linemen in the transfer portal.
Led by All-American safety Jakari Foster, Louisiana Tech is top 40 in the country in points allowed per game (21.3) and should be able to slow a depleted Coastal offense.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs' run-first approach is poised to shine against a Chants defense ranked No. 129 by SP+.

Louisiana Tech is set to start Trey Kukuk at QB due to injuries to Blake Baker and Evan Bullock. And while this isn't Kukuk's first start, Sonny Cumbie will likely lean on his legs more than his arm.
What Kukuk lacks as a passer, he more than makes up for in the run game. In the Bulldogs' last two games of the regular season, Kukuk led the team to wins over Liberty and Missouri State by utilizing his mobility.
In those wins, he combined for 315 rushing yards on 35 carries and found the end zone five times. Expect a heavy dose of Kukuk again on the ground against a Coastal team ranked No. 109 in EPA per rush on defense.
🐶 Burnette is the bite to Kukuk's bark
Tech's offense runs through its running backs, with Clay Thevenin and Andrew Burnette being a bullying one-two punch. Thevenin is more of a space player who's involved in the passing game, while Burnette is a bruiser at the goal line. That's why I love parlaying Burnette to score (-155) with Kukuk to score (-215).
In Kukuk's two starts to close out the regular-season, the 238-pound Burnette carried the rock 33 times for 225 yards and five touchdowns.
