BYU vs. Colorado Prediction: Odds & Expert Picks for College Football Week 5

Last Updated: September 27, 2025 10:00 AM EDT • 3 minute read X Social Google News Link

Colorado has struggled to a 2-2 record while trying to find the right fit at starting quarterback, but the confidence Kaidon Salter instilled in Coach Prime last week has me confident the Buffaloes will do their part in scoring - a key factor in my BYU vs. Colorado prediction.
The Cougars are 6.5-point favorites ahead of kickoff tonight at 10:15 p.m. ET (ESPN) from Folsom Field in Boulder, Colo., but the juice being more on BYU’s side makes looking at the total the more prudent option for my first college football picks.
Since I expect the Over to cash, I am doubling down on an anytime touchdown scorer’s +125 odds as my top two plays to add to my college football predictions for Week 5.

⬆️ Over 47.5 (-115) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is a rematch of last year’s Alamo Bowl which BYU dominated, winning 36-14 after racing out to a 20-0 halftime lead. But the equation changes massively with no bowl game opt-outs and this matchup being played in altitude on Colorado’s home field. I am encouraged enough by what I saw from the Buffaloes last week to back the Over as my BYU vs. Colorado best bet.
Wyoming entered last week’s matchup with Colorado ranked in the top 16 nationally in EPA per dropback and EPA per drive allowed. But perhaps they had spent more time game-planning for third-string quarterback Ryan Staub and his -0.37 EPA per dropback.
Instead, Coach Prime went back to Kaidon Salter, who became the only FBS quarterback this season with at least 300 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, 80 rushing yards, and a rushing touchdown in a game.
The Over has cashed in four of BYU’s last five road games against unranked opponents. So even though the last meeting between these teams stayed Under the projected total of 54.5 points, I am banking on a rejuvenated Colorado offense to help cash the Over.
Though FanDuel is the only one of our best sports betting sites with the Over juiced as high as -115, it also offers the best number for Over backers at 47.5 compared to 48.5 at competing shops. At a price of -115 and 53.49% implied odds, a $10 winning wager would return $8.70 in profits.

🔥 Bear Bachmeier, QB, BYU: To score anytime touchdown (+125) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier leads the team with four rushing touchdowns, yet his anytime touchdown odds are half the price of what running back LJ Martin’s odds are.
Martin’s 40 carries lead the team, and he is a home run threat with an 8.6 yards per carry average. But Bachmeier’s 22 carries are second on the team, and there should not be this big of a difference in their touchdown odds.
Bachmeier to find the end zone is my best BYU vs. Colorado player prop pick, especially since the Buffaloes defense entered last week ranked 115th nationally in available yards allowed.
The freshman has scored at least once in every game this season, and the Cougars figure to control the time of possession if their defense continues to be elite at stopping the run - BYU’s 44.3 rushing yards per game allowed are the second-fewest in the country.
There is a sizeable difference between bet365’s +125 odds and the -115 odds (carrying a 53.49% implied probability) on the opposite end of the market. Through bet365’s +125 odds, a $10 wager would bet $12.50 in profits if Bachmeier finds the end zone for a fourth straight game.
