Notre Dame seems to be finding its groove after two early losses, just like it did last year, when it went on an impressive run from mid-September on and impressed the College Football Playoff committee with statement victories.
But while the Fighting Irish impressively won 56-13 at Arkansas as a 4.5-point favorite, we should not overlook Boise State’s 33-point home win as a 16.5-point favorite against Appalachian State last week.
The Broncos have averaged 49 points per game over their last three games. They did what they should have done against a Mountaineers defense that ranked 100th in explosiveness allowed, torching them for 473 total yards and six plays of 20-plus yards.
The Fighting Irish masked their defensive injuries by jumping out to a big early lead last week, but they're still without two of their best players in the secondary and one of their best pass-rushers. I expect that to catch up with Notre Dame this week when it faces a Broncos team that quietly has a 7.6% chance to make the playoff.

Oddsmakers have inflated Love’s rushing yards total this week as he has set career highs in back-to-back weeks, with 157 rushing yards against Purdue two weeks ago and 70 receiving yards last week. In the game against the Razorbacks, Love also became the first player in school history with two receiving touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in the same game.
The Broncos have allowed two rushers (both from Air Force) to go Over this projected total. But even when the game script was against them in a 34-7 loss to South Florida, they still hung in well in the trenches, holding the Bulls to 117 yards rushing and 4.2 yards per carry.
