My Alabama vs. Indiana same-game parlay for the Rose Bowl sees the passing line for Fernando Mendoza as a favorable target given No. 9 Alabama’s recent softening in the secondary. Meanwhile, No. 1 Indiana’s run defense should stymie Alabama’s inefficient rushing attack.
The action for Alabama vs. Indiana in the Rose Bowl kicks off from the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., Thursday at 4 p.m. ET (ABC). Indiana is a 7.5-point betting favorite as part of our college bowl game predictions.

Under 47.5 (-105) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Neither Alabama (6-8 on Overs) nor Indiana (7-6 on Overs) experienced its games trending strongly toward Overs this season, as both teams fall among two of the top nine in adjusted defensive efficiency in the country. The teams combined to allow an average of 31 points per game, with Indiana’s scoring defense ranking third in the nation (11.8 PPG).
Four of Alabama’s last five games against FBS foes ended with fewer than 47.5 total points. Although only four of Indiana’s games all season did so, the Hoosiers' battles with more capable defenses like Iowa, Ohio State, and Wisconsin fell among those examples.
Fernando Mendoza Over 217.5 passing yards (-114) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Alabama’s 15th-ranked pass defense (allowing 179.8 yards per game on the season) has been more generous down the stretch, giving up 307 yards and 259 yards to a pair of relatively inefficient passers in John Mateer and Ashton Daniels, respectively.
Due to the steadiness of Indiana's run game, Fernando Mendoza hasn’t needed gaudy passing totals in many of his outings, but the line is very reasonable in this matchup. Mendoza has cleared 217.5 passing yards eight times this year.
Jam Miller Under 27.5 rushing yards (-114) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Indiana boasts one of the nation's toughest run defenses, allowing just 80.8 yards per game on the ground. Over their last three games, the Hoosiers have permitted only 57.3 rushing yards.
A season-long fade of mine, Jam Miller has only cleared this rushing line in two of his past seven games, with one of those outings coming against an FCS opponent. He simply hasn’t been efficient and is ceding work to backfield mate Daniel Hill. We’ll keep fading until Miller surprises us.
