PrizePicks has obtained an interactive fantasy sports operating license from New York’s Gaming Commission (NYSGC) and intends to roll out its peer-to-peer contests in the state within weeks.
The re-entry into New York follows a 2024 legal agreement with the Commission, since which PrizePicks has worked in close coordination with the regulator to ensure its product complies with the state's broader fantasy sports criteria adopted in 2023. With this approval, New York becomes the 16th jurisdiction to recognize PrizePicks' peer-to-peer contests as games of skill under fantasy sports law.
Company executives emphasized that compliance and innovation were central to the operator's re-entry into the market.
"New York is home to some of the most passionate sports fans in the country, and we know they will be excited to have PrizePicks back. We're thrilled to offer a great entertainment experience that elevates how they engage on game day and beyond," said PrizePicks CEO Mike Ybarra.
Chief Legal Officer and Head of Public Policy Jason Barclay added that the approval reflects a shared effort between the company and the NYSGC to build a compliant and sustainable model for fantasy sports in the state.
PrizePicks also further enhanced its Responsible Gaming infrastructure, achieving accreditation from the Internet Compliance Assessment Program of the National Council on Problem Gambling earlier this year. It is the first and only fantasy operator to become certified.
Brand advertising
Following its New York approval, PrizePicks has unveiled the latest iteration of its It's Good to Be Right campaign with a slate of spots starring basketball icons Allen Iverson and Candace Parker, comedian Sam Richardson, and social media personality Drew "Druski" Desbordes. The new ads highlight the company's social engagement features while connecting with a broad sports audience.
In the lead commercial, Iverson and Richardson humorously demonstrate the PrizePicks app's features, with Parker and Druski appearing in separate television and digital segments promoting the PrizePicks Feed, a recently added social component that lets users view and interact with others' picks in real time.
“We are thrilled to team up with basketball and cultural icons to showcase our new social features, making it simpler than ever to get in on the action with PrizePicks. These humorous spots show off that 'It's Good to be Right,' even if that means leaning on the knowledge of your friends,” said Chief Marketing Officer of PrizePicks, Mike Quigley.
PrizePicks' latest app updates also see its increased player profiles listing the user's performance and activity stats, furthering its move toward a community-oriented fantasy sports app.
