Casino games developer Octoplay has expanded its presence in the New Jersey online casino market through a new partnership with Rush Street Interactive (RSI).
The deal extends an existing relationship between the two companies, which already collaborate in Ontario, Canada, and Mexico.
As part of the agreement, Octoplay will make several of its titles available on BetRivers Casino, the RSI-operated online gambling platform. Among the games being rolled out are 777 Hot Reels: Supercharged and Juicy Rolls: Feature Frenzy.
The launch comes after Octoplay secured a provisional license from New Jersey regulators in June of this year, adding to its portfolio of 12 active licenses across Europe and North America. The company already holds approvals in the UK, Italy, Sweden, Ontario, and most recently, Michigan, where it obtained a similar provisional license earlier this year.
“Partnering with Rush Street Interactive represents a significant milestone in our North American growth trajectory. We’re excited to partner with Rush Street Interactive and to build a meaningful and long-term partnership together," said Ralitsa Georgieva, Director of Business Development at Octoplay.
BetRivers adjusts Illinois minimum bet
While RSI expands its casino content in New Jersey, the operator has also been responding to regulatory changes in the Illinois sports betting market, where lawmakers recently imposed a new tax structure on online sportsbooks.
Speaking during the company’s second-quarter earnings call on July 30, the Chief Financial Officer at BetRivers, Kyle Sauers, confirmed that the company has increased its minimum wager in Illinois to $1 in response to a new per-wager tax. The state now charges operators at least $0.25 cents on every bet placed with an Illinois sports betting app.
“On Illinois, we haven’t shared plans yet on exactly what we plan to do. We’re trying to make sure we’re blending goals of a great player experience but also appropriate economics for us,” he said.
Until the change, BetRivers had a $0.10 minimum bet in Illinois, in line with its approach across other markets. The increase now places RSI among at least six operators implementing cost mitigation measures since the new tax regulations were enacted.
FanDuel, DraftKings, and Fanatics have chosen to introduce a per-transaction fee on wagers, while BetMGM and Hard Rock Bet have set higher minimum bet requirements of $2.50 and $2, respectively. FanDuel and DraftKings, which already pay higher tax rates under Illinois’ progressive system, are among the operators most affected.
RSI has not indicated whether further measures will follow, but the company emphasized it is monitoring the situation closely as the new tax regime reshapes the Illinois online betting market.
