BetMGM has updated its terms of service to prohibit harassment directed at athletes, coaches, and team or league personnel. Under its updated policy, the operator explains that it may suspend a user if it determines the individual engaged in harassing or abusive conduct.
The updated terms, according to a BetMGM announcement, clarify enforcement standards that were previously covered under broader provisions allowing suspension for lawful reasons. Regulatory approval is still required in certain jurisdictions.
The change places specific language around athlete harassment rather than expanding BetMGM's disciplinary authority. The operator - one of our best sports betting sites - stated that confirmed violations would result in enforcement action, including account suspension.
BetMGM operates in regulated sports betting markets, which allow operators to review account activity, investigate reports, and take action when conduct violates platform rules.
The change comes as more scrutiny lands on how bettors interact with athletes, especially when gambling losses spill into harassment. BetMGM framed the update as a reminder of boundaries, not a reaction to any one episode. The statement stressed conduct standards across the wider betting landscape.
"We are unwavering in our commitment to sports integrity — and that commitment extends to safeguarding athletes, coaches and league personnel," said Rhea Loney, BetMGM's Chief Compliance Officer. "Our legal, regulated environment enables us to identify misconduct, investigate reports, and take action when necessary. Any confirmed instance of harassment will result in decisive measures, including account suspension."
The revision also fits within the company's current responsible gambling approach. Educational messaging through the GameSense program remains integrated across BetMGM's mobile and desktop platforms and at MGM Resorts properties nationwide.
BetMGM casino awards over $122M in progressive jackpots
Separate from the policy update, BetMGM also reported awarding $122.1 million in progressive jackpots to online casino players during 2025. The Michigan online casino market accounted for some of the largest payouts, with one user winning $897,928 in December from an $8 spin on Bison Fury.
According to BetMGM, 2026 is already getting off to a strong start with jackpot activity. There was a $612,764 win by another Michigan player on a $2 spin of MegaJackpots Cash Eruption just after the new year began. Progressive jackpots remained a central feature of BetMGM Casino throughout the year. The operator reported awarding $42.6 million in jackpot prizes in Michigan. Pennsylvania online casino players followed with $29.7 million, customers in the New Jersey online casino realm followed with $23.5 million, online casino in Ontario paid out with CA$29.5 million, and West Virginia online casino players with $5 million.
“In 2025, BetMGM brought big names to iGaming – from the Wizard of Oz slots and Rakin’ Bacon to branded Price is Right casino games. Jackpots transformed gameplay into legendary moments for our players and continues to be one of the ways we leverage our exclusive relationship with MGM Resorts International,” said Oliver Bartlett, Vice President of Gaming at BetMGM.
