A player at the online casino platform BetMGM Ontario has landed two progressive jackpot prizes within a week, worth a total of over CAD 2 million.

Both jackpots were won through the MGM Grand Millions game, on which the player staked CAD 20 per spin. MGM Grand Millions is a progressive jackpot, a form of slot game in which a fraction of the stake money from each spin is pooled in a networked fund.

The size of the prize pool is not limited, so these games can generate significant wins for one of the best online casinos in Canada.

According to BetMGM Ontario, the two wins came just six days apart. The first was a prize of CAD 1.6 million, which set a new record for the biggest prize BetMGM Ontario has ever paid out. The second win earned the customer CAD 417,377, bringing the total to CAD 2 million across the two wins.

BetMGM’s network of in-house progressive games is developed by the operator’s parent company, Entain. According to BetMGM's figures, the collection of progressive jackpots from popular slot titles such as MGM Grand Millions, Bison Fury, and 15 Lanterns generated a combined total of CAD 14 million in payouts to players during 2024. It's what makes the operator one of the most popular online casinos in Ontario.

BetMGM Ontario handed fine

BetMGM Ontario hasn’t been without controversy in recent months. The company was hit with a significant fine by the Ontario gambling regulator, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission (AGCO).

The fine of CAD 110,000 was handed out after an investigation by AGCO found that there had been three incidents of inducements being offered to the public to register with BetMGM sites. Two of the incidents involved affiliate companies, and one involved employees of BetMGM.

According to the rules that govern the Ontario iGaming sector, it is illegal for any company to offer inducements of any kind. In response, BetMGM issued an apology and committed to ensuring the incidents would not be repeated.

Ontario’s growing iGaming market

BetMGM’s focus on Ontario’s iGaming sector is not unique among major gambling operators, as the Canadian betting sector continues to grow.

As another province, Alberta, prepares to launch a commercially competitive iGaming industry later in early 2026, figures released by iGaming Ontario for April 2025 show that online casino gaming and sports betting continue to perform strongly, recording the second-highest gaming revenue since its iGaming market launched in 2022.

Non-adjusted gross gaming revenue from online casino gaming was CAD 242.8 million for the month, up 1% from March's figure, representing 78% of the overall market. Online sports betting revenue also rose in April by 34% to CAD 64.5 million, though this segment only accounts for 21% of the iGaming market in Ontario.
