BetMGM NBA Championship Betting Trends: Warriors Now Favorites and Big Bet on 76ers

The Golden State Warriors, winners of NBA Championships in 2015, 2017, and 2018, look like they have turned back the clock and have once again emerged as the betting favorites at BetMGM to win the 2022 title.

After a 118-113 win in Game Three at Denver, the Warriors have taken a comfortable 3-0 series lead in their first-round series against the Nuggets. The Warriors are healthy, with superstar point guard Steph Curry coming off the bench in this series following a late-season ankle injury, and Golden State looks nearly as formidable as they did during their championship seasons.

Third-year Warriors guard Jordan Poole has emerged as a star in this series, scoring 86 points, while shooting 66.7% from the field and 59.1% on three-pointers, through the first three games.

Golden State’s strong start to the postseason has seen more money shift in their direction. On Tuesday, the Warriors were on 11.2% of the tickets for 13.1% of the handle at BetMGM and now those numbers have moved to 12.3% and 14.4%, respectively. BetMGM took a $125,000 wager on the Warriors when they were priced at +360, so that could yield a payout of $450,000 if Golden State takes the title.

Phoenix Suns

Not only do the Warriors look good but the favorites coming into the playoffs, the Phoenix Suns, are in a more difficult position now. The Suns are tied 1-1 with the New Orleans Pelicans but, more importantly, leading scorer Devin Booker is going to miss 2-3 weeks with a strained hamstring. The Suns still have the greatest percentage of tickets (25.2%) and handle (28.1%) at BetMGM.

Philadelphia 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers have jumped out to a 3-0 series lead against the Toronto Raptors and BetMGM has also taken a $35,000 wager on the Sixers to win the championship, at +1200, offering a potential $420,000 payout.

Boston Celtics

Coming into the season, expectations were not high for the Boston Celtics, who opened at +4000 to win the NBA Championship, but a strong finish to the regular season gave them the second-best record in the Eastern Conference. That finish, paired with a 2-0 series lead against the Brooklyn Nets, has seen the Celtics’ odds drop to +500.

Brooklyn Nets

The Nets are going in the opposite direction. The preseason favorites, priced at +225, have seen their odds climb from the time that they traded James Harden to Philadelphia. After losing the first two games in Boston, the Nets are now +1600 to win the title.

The Longshots

The longest odds on the board at BetMGM now belong to the Denver Nuggets and the Toronto Raptors. Both teams are down 3-0 in their respective series and are priced at +50000 to win the NBA Championship.
