Australia Punches Ticket to 2022 FIFA World Cup

We are over five months out from the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and another team has booked its spot in the tournament.
In a rematch of their Group C match back in the 2018 World Cup, Australia defeated Peru in the AFC-CONMEBOL intercontinental playoff game 5-4 on penalties and will be the sixth team from the AFC in the World Cup. This will also be the sixth time they themselves have qualified for the tournament.

The game finished scoreless after 120 minutes, with Peru hitting the post in extra time. Goalkeeper Andrew Redmane ended up being the hero for the Socceroos, being subbed on right before the end of extra time and making the clinching save in the penalty shootout.
Australia will be in Group D, alongside Denmark, Tunisia, and defending champions France. Incredibly, they were also drawn with France and Denmark in Group C in the 2018 World Cup. They open up their tournament with a match against the French on Nov. 22.
DraftKings Sportsbook has Australia at +25000 to win the World Cup if you believe the Aussies can make a historic run to the title. They've only made it past the group stage once, back in 2006 when they lost to eventual champions Italy in the round of 16.
The 32nd and final spot will be decided on June 14, when Costa Rica take on New Zealand in an intercontinental playoff game.
