Good teams win. Great teams cover.

Los Angeles prevailed to win Super Bowl LVI 23-20, and Sportsbooks couldn’t have been happier with the final results. The Rams won but didn’t cover, and the total was well under the consensus 48.5 number.

Tough Night for Mattress Mack

Furniture salesman Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, grabbed headlines ahead of the Super Bowl for placing two bets on the Cincinnati moneyline. One was for $4.5 million and the second for $5 million.

The wagers are connected to sales promotions at his stores, and had the Bengals won, McIngvale would refund the payments to anyone who spent $3,000 or more on mattresses and recliners.

Caesars Sportsbook was happy to take the action and looks forward to McIngvale’s next wager.

Big Winners

Yes, the sportsbooks made out great Sunday, but there were still a lot of big winners.

Canadian rapper Drake made three significant bets and cashed two of three. He probably would have won them all if Odell Beckham Jr. didn’t suffer a knee injury and have to leave the game.

Additionally, Marco Piemonte hit a futures bet on the Rams to win his fourth million-dollar wager of the season.

Here are a few more of the big winners:

A WynnBET bettor turned $2k into $13k after hitting a 5-leg Same Game Parlay:

Yet another bettor cashed in a 5-leg parlay using the FanDuel Sportsbook app:

Barstool Sportsbook bettor cashed in for $82k after hitting a 3-leg parlay. Not a bad Sunday night!

Super Bowl LVII Odds

Many books were releasing their odds for next year’s championship game before Super Bowl LVI was even over. BetMGM has the Chiefs and Bills listed with the shortest odds, whereas the Texans, Jets, and Lions have the largest.

It’s also interesting to see the Broncos so short after finishing 7-10 and losing four straight to conclude the year. Obviously, the book doesn’t want to have a severe liability if quarterback Aaron Rodgers follows Nathaniel Hackett to Denver.

First of Many for Scottie Scheffler?

While Super Bowl LVI dominated the headlines Sunday, it would be remiss not to acknowledge Scottie Scheffler’s first PGA Tour victory at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. He was +2800 to win and a popular pick for punters.

Scheffler finished second at the World Golf Championship - Dell Technologies Match Play last summer and then had two more runner-up finishes more recently at the Houston Open and the Hero World Challenge.

It was a dramatic finish, too. Scheffler and reigning FedEx Cup Champion Patrick Cantlay went to a playoff, and after they parred the first two holes, Scheffler canned a 26-foot birdie to secure his first tour victory.
