March Madness 2021
In January, the NCAA announced that the 2021 NCAA Tournament will be played in Indiana, with most of the 67 games taking place in Indianapolis. Selection Sunday will be on March 14th, with the Final Four scheduled for April 3rd and 5th.
The games will be played on two courts inside Lucas Oil Stadium (only one game at a time will be played in this venue), Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Hinkle Fieldhouse, Indiana Farmers Coliseum, Mackey Arena in West Lafayette and Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington. The teams will practice at the Indiana Convention Center with multiple courts set up inside there. Dedicated hotel floors will house all the teams, with physically distanced meeting and dining rooms and secure transportation to and from the arenas.
The 2021 March Madness bracket will be handled a little bit differently this year because the entire tournament is in Indiana. Nothing will change for the top four seeds and the First Four but the rest of the bracket will have the teams based on rankings (this is called the “S-curve”), not the usual considerations for geography. Also, there will be 37 at-large selections (there are usually 36) and 31 automatic qualifiers (there are usually 32).
