I just hate myself right now for being so stupid betting on a public favorite in tennis!

#2875TUESDAY
MATHIEU +140
Sometimes you have to look at a line and ask yourself, what is the line telling you? If the line answers you, seek help from a mental health professional. In all seriousness though, Chardy is ONLY a -160 favorite here. You have to ask why. Chardy made a nice run in Hamburg last week, while Mathieu is 1-9 on dirt in 2010. So just -160? Seems like the books are begging for your action on Chardy. This is the spot that Chardy has disappointed in this season. Just when it seems like he might be turning around an abysmal season, he rips your heart out with a loss where you wouldn't expect it. You may not want to follow the logic of this selection because nothing points to Mathieu here. They are doubles partners. They do know each other's games. Both have had some success in Gstaad. Bastille Day is in the rear view mirror. I'll pay to see Chardy maintain his consistency here.Comment -

#2877CHALLENGER PLAY
POSPISIL +150
Part of my man Beefcake's formula here to fade Challenger players who lose finals before starting a new tournament. Pospisil draws Roger-Vasselin who lost a clay Challenger final last week in Italy. It was his best clay result of the season and he's definitely more suited to harder surfaces where his serve can do better damage. The Czech Pospisil, has had a pretty solid dirt season on the Challenger level. He's been a bit off in trying to qualify in Hamburg last week and losing in a German Challenger the week prior. Before that though, Pospisil made the semis or better of three straight clay Challengers. I think Pospisil is the better player on this surface regardless of our fatigue/hangover angle. Taking a shot at plus money.Comment -

#2882SEPPI-GONZALEZ OVER 21.5 [-118]
Seppi and Gonzalez have met once before and that was at last year's French Open. Maximo Gonzalez dispatched on him in straight sets in that one. Seppi is in the better run of form of the two with a semifinal appearance last week in Hamburg and he made the QFs in Bastaad the week before. He's been playing tough and he's one of those guys who simply likes to put the ball back in play and let his opponent make errors. Maximo has been up & down on dirt this year, making a Challenger final back in June and he picked up a couple wins in Hamburg last week also. Really comes down to serving here. Maximo needs to get a high percentage of 1st serves in to stay competitive in this match. Seppi has played some tight sets on clay here in recent tournaments and if he can putting himself into holes on his service games, this one should have a chance.Comment -

#2883Mathieu needs a mental health professional.
He got rolled 6-1 in the 1st set, but really had a couple opportunities to break and make it a set. Chardy looks ready to party and I should really adhere to not betting on anything related to his matches. I rarely am on the right side it seems.Comment -

#2885Guess it is raining in Italy for that Challenger play because I don't show that they have started any matches and that one was first up. A delay until tomorrow zaps some of the edge off playing against a guy who lost a final on Sunday too, but oh well. Still like it and hope they get it in today.Comment -

#2888Makes no sense because they have their own live score for this Challenger via the ATP website but it has nothing on it. I found results for a few of the matches scheduled today at goalzz.com, but the one I want is just shown as if it has not been played or no score is known. Frustrating because I am banking that it is over already since it was supposed to start about 2-3 hours ago.Comment -

#2891Mardy Fish is out of LA due to fatigue/injury. Murray really has no excuses to not make the final, but is still way short at +100. This half of the draw is full of mooks.Comment -

#2892SWEETING-VLIEGEN OVER 22 [-123]
Sweeting has spent the better part of 2010 on the Challenger tour with a ton of hard court matches under his belt. Vliegen's main problem has been health with a lingering shoulder injury hampering him. Both played at Atlanta last week with Sweeting losing to Malisse and Vliegen to Marchenko. Vliegen did make the doubles final, so his fitness should not be a concern - only whether the shoulder holds. That he is playing back-2-back events tells me that it feels comfortable enough. These two met once at a Challenger event with the match going 3 sets. I think Sweeting is better suited to this surface, but his inexperience on the ATP level could make this interesting. With neither in great form, looking for this one to have some momentum swings to it and hopefully that gets the total done.Comment -

#2897BLAKE +110
[Insert laughter here]. I'm super serial. James Blake takes on Leonardo Mayer and well, what can you say about James Blake? He lost to Taylor Dent in Atlanta, his first competitive match since Wimbledon. While that is not a good result, he did play hard and has said in recent days that his knee feels the best it has in about a year. Why? Blake has decided against non-medication to treat the knee. That's the smartest thing he's probably done in the last year. Now, he's balls to the wall for the US Open Series as he works towards his favorite tournament of the year. Does all this matter? He draws Leo Mayer tonight and the fact of the matter is that Mayer is 7-9 on hard courts this year at the ATP level. Fact is the last time he won on a hard court was back in February. Blake had a decent Spring on the surface before his knee starting killing him, going 8-8 with losses to some good competition in Roddick, Del Potro, Almagro and Bellucci. This is the ONLY spot that James Blake makes sense. He's now the underdog. People think Mayer is actually better on this surface? He's under .500 on it for his career and lest we forget his last match came in Davis Cup play on a fast indoor surface where he was pummeled by Youzhny in straight sets. Blake may not be 100%, but tonight I think you see 100% effort at rebuilding an image. [Insert laughter here] Hahaahahaha! Get on the J-Block bitches.
