#4693LATE NIGHT PARLAY: PENNETTA + PAVLYUCHENKOVA [-104]
The key word for me tonight is consistency. Pennetta draws Kirilenko in Tokyo and that is a nice match-up for the Italian who sports a 3-2 mark vs. the Russian, including a straight sets win in August on hard courts. She has won the last three head-2-head match-ups and had an easier time in Round 1. Kirilenko again showed shaky in dropping the middle set against Martinez Sanchez yesterday where she should have won easily in straights. Both had a decent summer on this surface, but Pennetta was a bit better and shows more consistency. Pavlyuchenkova draws Bondarenko after winning a spirited 7-5, 7-5 first round encounter with Cibulkova. It was a nice bounce back for the young Russian who faltered in Seoul last week. Bondarenko had no troubles in her opener either. Both these players fared well at Tokyo in 2009, but since then it's Pavlyuchenkova who has ascended while Bondarenko has been very poor for most of 2010. If the Russian gets that 1st serve in consistently, I think she outlasts Bondarenko today.
Weather may once again delay action for a bit tonight, so be aware of that if you don't like having money tied up. I believe both of these are on Court 1, so no roof protection from the elements like center court.Last edited by EaglesPhan36; 09-27-10, 05:24 PM.Comment -

#4694CHALLENGER PLAY: SCHUKIN -155
The Kazak draws the Austrian Haider-Maurer here. The Austrian is having to make the surface switch from an indoor hard court about 10 days ago in Davis Cup action back to dirt. He's been decent on the surface with a 13-6 mark on dirt including qualis since July. Schukin though is in solid form having made a Challenger final on dirt just last week. He's done some nice things on clay this summer, including a Challenger title and a semifinal appearance at the Gstaad tournament on the ATP level. Although Haider-Maurer is growing on this surface, he's still about a 50% winner while Schukin has far more experience. He's also played this Napoli tournament before, winning it in 2007. Schukin could be a little sluggish to start since he played a final recently, but he did get a full day to recover. I'll take my chances that his form beats potential fatigue.Comment -

#4698CHALLENGER PLAY: VENTURA -110
Montevideo Challenger in Uruguay this morning sees Ventura draw Jorge Aguilar. Neither is in a good vein of form at the moment, but Ventura has historically played well at this tournament. He won it in 2007 and made the QFs in 2008. Both lost last week in the main draw of their events, but Ventura was at the ATP level where he ran through qualis in Bucharest before losing to Crivoi. Aguilar got dumped at a Challenger in Colombia. Definitely close to a coin flip here, but I'll go with the guy who has a good track record here in another Degenerates Especial.Comment -

#4701Im going to keep betting some of these small tourneys but I wish I had a good enough sample size where I could tell myself its not profitable long term.

#4702PARLAY: AZARENKA + BAGHDATIS [-165]
Granted this parlay price won't beeveryone's cup of tea, but I think these provide the two most solid plays tonight/tomorrow. Azarenka draws Bartoli whom she has beaten in all five career meetings, including 3-0 this year with two wins on hard courts. Bartoli has cruised through two rounds and Azarenka broke her Tokyo cherry with an easy straight sets win as well. Bartoli was great on 1st serve vs. Ivanovic, but was very vulnerable when she couldn't get that 1st serve in. I think Aza is out to prove a point this week after her embarassing concussion retirement at the US Open and if she serves well, I think she beats Bartoli again. Baghdatis draws Giraldo who just isn't a player who is suited to a fast indoor court. Baggy plastered Nishikori and looks as if the break from the US Open has given him a little pep heading down the stretch. If his serve is on, he should provide too much for Giraldo.Comment -

#4703was bartoli really that great on first serve or was it just ivanovic doing something fishy? 0/19 on first service return points with one of the best return wta players in the game.Cause Sleep is the Cousin of DeathComment -

#4704DOUBLE DOG PROJECT
Have used this in some other sports, wagering on two solid prices hoping for a split and a profit.
DOLGOPOLOV +235
RAONIC +200
Dolgopolov has history with Youzhny already, upsetting him at the Toronto Masters event this year. Youzhny hasn't gotten on this surface yet, so Dolgopolov could prove to have an edge on him. If he can take the opening set and keep his serve from faltering, I rate him a good shot at pulling another upset. Raonic had a blistering 23 aces in winning his opener after making it through qualis. Stakhovsky continues to play with fire as he's made a habit of rallying from match point down in his run of good form late this summer. I think whomever gets their 1st serve in more consistently will win this one. A point to note is Stakhovsky is listed as being on the list for qualis in Beijing next week which carries more points to earn than this 250 event, so his focus could be questionable.Comment -

#4705Dunno, but those 2nd serve #s are poor and if Bartoli doesn't serve a high percentage on that 1st serve - Azarenka should make her pay I hope.Comment -

#4707ANDERSON-GOLUBEV OVER 23 [-110]
The Big Stick, Anderson, struggled against Falla after it looked like he would cruise after the opening set of 6-1. Not sure if it was rust or the possible foot injury hampering him a little. Golubev crushed Lsu, not offering a single break point. Golubev looks to be in a good groove on this surface now with two Davis Cup wins in impressive style + yesterday's win. If his serve is stout, Anderson isn't likely to get many points off it it someone like Lsu who has a return game cannot. Vice versa, Anderson's serve should be equally tough if it's on. Taking a small shot here at 11pm ET.Comment -

#4715At least he's giving us some excitement for our dog bet.
Part of me always feels like I should put a little on all of the Ukrainians because my grandparents on one side of my family were from there but damn... when I skip them they cruise through and when I back them they play wiffle ball even if they manage to win. I really need to start cutting these ties but hopefully him and Raonic can pull through for me to keep my homer streak alive.Comment -

#4723Typical ending. Double fault to get broken. I think this kid is gonna be on my no-fly list pretty soon. Too many question marks surrounding his true intentions in matches what with all the crazy line movements this summer and then these little mistakes right at the most critical part of the match when he had been holding serve relatively easily all set. Just sayin. Thanks for making me waste another hour that I could have been sleeping putz. Maybe Raonic can at least get the split on the project play, bed time.Comment -
