WTA Stanford: Bertens/Gibbs

WTA degenerates, gather round. It's looking like they're running behind in Stanford, which means we'll have some late-night tennis on our hands. I need your insight on this match, as this is one of the few times of year I wager on the ladies.

What's the winning late-night degenerate play ... if there is such a thing? Is Bertens going to be tired after coming over from Europe? I know she had a good run on the hard courts last year, so it seems like she shouldn't be the dog here. Is Gibbs playing at Stanford that big of an advantage?

I personally have some money on Cirstea and Keys for later tonight. Cirstea smoked her in the 1st set but of course in typical WTA style is totally blowing the 2nd, about to be broken twice already. I don't know enough about Bertens or Gibbs to be able to make a good educated wager. Sorry buddy, I'm sure there are plenty of others here that know them well enough. Gibbs won a challenger on HC recently and has the benefit of some competitive matches on the surface. I don't think that coupled with at home advantage (decent run at home at New Haven last year) would give such a line though. At this price Bertens seems pretty solid because of her run last year as you say. BOL whatever your pick.

On paper, Gibbs' form seems much more impressive on the hardcourt than Bertens but that's cos Bertens has been playing top-tier opponents, not the challenger events like Gibbs usually plays. Books probably priced it that way considering the form and home-court advantage, which makes Bertens that much more attractive to lay a bet on.

I'm going to roll with the over here. None of the matches today have gone three sets, but I have a feeling Bertens will need a set to settle in because she hasn't played on hard courts in a while. I think Bertens is a good pick, and I hope she wins something like 7-6, 7-5 so we both cash. I see a three-setter here, but to be honest I'm high and this is a late-night degenerate throw-a-dart-at-the-board play.

typical WTA match, whoever is serving has ZERO advantage. Bertens looks better in the rallies slightly.

Bertens lost 4 of the 6 games on her own serve and Gibbs 3 of her 4. I'd say if one of the girls can hold twice they'll win the second set. Bertens you would think should be all right but this one may just be quick work. SMFH

Bertens crashed and burned in the second set. That's why I always bet small on the ladies. Oh well. Can't bat .1000. Still was a great day for a lot of us on here.
