Formula 1: Schumacher v Rosberg - Who Won the Match Up?
I placed a couple of bets on the Monaco F1 race, one on Schumacher v Rosberg head-to-head. Because of max bet limits and shifts in odds, the bets were placed at a couple of books.

Schumacher got a 20 second time penalty, but it was a retrospective time penalty, imposed because there was no time left in the race for a drive-through. I can't find out for sure whether it was imposed before or after the podium presentation. Without the time penalty, Schumacher finished ahead; with it, Rosberg did. So who won the head-to-head?

The books' rules are as follows, and I think they're the same for this purpose:

    Pinnacle -

    Formula 1:
The start of any race is defined as the signal to start the warm up lap. Drivers must start the race in order for wagers to be considered action.

All wagers to win the race will be graded at the time of the podium presentation as per the FIA classification. Subsequent penalties or demotions will not affect the grading of wagers.

In head-to-head matchups, in the event neither driver finishes, the driver completing more laps will be deemed the winner. If both drivers have completed the same number of full laps, wagers will be graded as no action. Subsequent penalties or demotions will not affect the grading of wagers.

Qualifying wagers will be graded by qualification result as per FIA. All wagers are action once a driver starts qualifying. Subsequent penalties or demotions will not affect the grading of wagers.

Championship wagers will be graded as per FIA classification immediately after the final race of the season and will not be affected by any subsequent penalties or demotions.

In head-to-head matchups, both drivers must start the race in order for the wager to be considered "action".

    Cris group -

    FORMULA ONE BETTING
Bets on Formula One (F1), Motor and Auto races are decided on the podium position of the day of the prize giving for the particular event, any changes in position after this time is not considered for settling purposes. If two drivers abandon the race after completing the same number of laps, the respective head to head is deemed void, otherwise the driver who completes the most laps will be deemed the winner if both drivers fail to finish the race.
    To win the race:
60% of the starting field must start the race for action.
    Top 3 (podium) finishes:
80% of the starting field must start for action.
    Drivers Matchups:
Both drivers must start the race for action.
THE FORMATION LAP IS NOT CONSIDERED PART OF THE RACE FOR WAGERING PURPOSES.

      Same as Cris group.

Pinnacle initially graded it a win, and then regraded it a loss. They say that it's because the time penalty was imposed between crossing the line and the podium presentation, but even if that's the case - which I haven't been able to confirm - the reference to podium is only for "race winner" wagers, not for match-ups, which just says subsequent penalties, etc. don't affect the grading.

Ok, so I've just rewatched the BBC live coverage online, and the whole trophy presentation is made and then the official classification is shown with Schumacher in 6th. The commentators then discuss the overtake, concluding it's a legitimate pass and with no discussion of a time penalty. Only 5 minutes later on the live coverage do the commentators say they're "getting news" that there may be a problem for Schumacher's overtake. They make clear that the stewards "are looking at it" so no decisions were made before podium.

I've gone back and forth 3 times with Pinnacle via e-mail explaining that Schumacher should have won the match-up. Should I file a complaint? I really don't want to complain against Pinnacle.

A bit crap that it seems you can't have a legitimate dispute with Pinnacle without fear of losing your account.

Did you settle it with them? If not I would suggest filing a complaint.

Not settled yet. I e-mailed a 4th time, sending a precise timeline of the live coverage, inviting them to view it online, and asking them to reconsider. Each e-mail has received a reply, so I'm not just bombarding them (though it feels a bit like that!), but replying to their reasons for not settling Schumacher as winning the match-up.

I didn't place any bets on Betfair so can't be sure, but from their forum discussion threads, it looks like they also settled on Schumacher as 6th and, as of this year, their rules are the same as Cris and Pinnacle.

I will give them till tomorrow, then send a final e-mail checking they haven't reconsidered before filing a complaint.

Settled. Pinnacle gave me a manual adjustment for the stake and winnings, rather than re-grading the bet (I wonder if this means they let the settlement on Rosberg stand for anyone that bet on him).

I'm relieved not to have to file a complaint, but a little disappointed that I had to keep re-explaining their rules to them in order to get the credit. After all, they're meant to be the best in the business, and my other bet on Schuhi was settled fine elsewhere.
