    Disturbing News from the A.G.A.
The A.G.A. (American Gaming Association) issued it's annual report recently. To the suprise of no one, it found that the onverall gaming take was down again. However that was NOT the bad news for those who are looking for on line gambling to be legalized in the U.S. Here is the bad news:

"One of the more surprising findings from the report was that only 45 percent of people view gambling as "perfectly acceptable for anyone," down from 57 percent in 2003. Those figures, derived from a poll conducted for the AGA in February by pollster Peter D. Hart, imply that the public is not as comfortable with gambling as it used to be."

That is a huge drop, and probably kills any chance of on line gaming being leaglized in this country in the near future. Any politician favoring such action is facing defeat this year, and probably in 2012, unless he/she is in a very safe district.

This report, along with others, seems to indicate that the U.S. is going to get a lot tougher on off shore casinos and books. It is going to be harder and harder to transfer funds between your bank and these books. Basically, the Feds can close down any off shore book to Americans that it chooses to, for a large number of reasons. Plan ahead people. You are now in the minority, and with Conservative gains in Congress imminent, things are going to get worse, not better, for the off shore gaming industry.

newsflash: (Frank) doesn't give a shit about gambling (ie freedom), he just see's it as another way to tax and in turn have more revenue to buy votes.

take out 1 word - perfectly - results would be a lot different - unfortunatly there's not many things that most people think are 'perfectly acceptable for anyone'.

              Latest APCW news:

This week, as rumors of new online gambling legislation spread through the American Congress, Republican lawmakers dredge up the ghost of imprisoned lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

He also does not know what he is talking about. What he conviently fails to mention is that if on line gaming is leaglized, that is the end of the off shore books in this country. Harrah's and others will be protected from off shore competition. This has been the plan for the past 5 years. It is a plan that I am all in favor of. O.K., so I do have a financial interest in this, but if you guys are going to give your money away gambling, why not give some of it to me? However there are other people in this country who will lose millions if this bill passes. Many of them are linked to "organized crime". In case you did not know, organized crime is the backbone for many off shore books, as being proven with every Federal Bust.

The problem is that Barney Frank is doing little or nothing now, and Harry Reid is just trying to save his political ass. This has no chance of passing in an election year, and little chance of passing in 2011, because the Democrats are going to have fewer votes to get it done. Had Frank gotten off his lazy ass two years ago, this could have been accomplished, but not now.

BD the current pro online gambling legislation they are trying to push through is only for online poker and maybe online casino. It imposes a 50% tax on all deposits to online sports gambling businesses. Not sure what this would do to the online sports gambling industry but I can't see how it would help. The legislation is as much anti sports gambling as it is pro poker.
