5dimes live chat ask for my password.
I had trouble depositing today so I went to live chat to hopefully find a resolution.

The first thing they asked me was my account number and password. I have no problem giving my account number but why would they need my password. Surely they can look up my account without it. I've always been told not to give out your password to anyone.

bookmaker used to ask for my password also. Its for security purposes to know its you and not someone else using your account, supposedly its safe, but i think they should add in a security question instead of asking for my password

there was a recent lengthy discussion on this subject if you care to do a search for it

I totally agree with you ... only the software system on logging in should ever have to ask for your password

security is compromised if you ever have to give it in other circumstances

        Seriously you guys?

How new are you to this?

Asking for a password is SOP. If you don't feel comfortable with it then get a local.

Just because you say it's standard operating procedure in these circles doesn't mean it's not outright amateurish and a MAJOR security breach. There are large amounts of money involved and thus should be treated exactly the same as bank accounts.

It may be SOP with crap books but you wont ever find banks and the more reputable books doing it.
                Betfair certainly doesn't, Moneybookers don't

you can just email customer support with your questions, no need to disclose your password. problem though - they are not so fast with replying

Yeah, they started asking me for my password on live chat also. The cs reps that have been around awhile (Monica, Lucy, Mike, etc...) normally don't ask but the newer ones always do.

I would say you don't need to worry about that.., on they system (whatever kind of system they may have) they have the full info you submmited when you signed up.., so it is not a big deal. Every agent is able to see your email, UN, PW, Zip code..., etc.., so, in my opinion, you shoudn't worry about it.... The only problem is if the agent would like to screw you... but doesn't happen often...

well, I'd be avoiding that place for sure

the fact is that the more secure agencies, banks, bookies, whatever do not ask for passwords and that staff have no way of accessing them ... they remain purely an issue between the customer and IT system.
staff use alternative means of customer identification if necessary

                                                Exacty.

The same guys complaining about verifying their password, would be the same guys complaining about someone accessing their account (if a password wasn't needed).

As ridiculous as it sounds, some posters have posted their account numbers AND passwords in these forums! Mods do a good job in deleting them, but posters still do it.
