Are bets to be paid out when they are winners? (season bets)
Ok so i'm in a small dispute with Expekt and I would like to see what you guys think about this. Both bets below have already won.

    My request:

First off NBA minnesota under 26.5 regular season wins, they are unable to reach this number. Secondly, NBA new orleans under 46.5 regular season wins, they are unable to reach this number.

    Expekt's response:

    Dear Mr. X,

Thank you for contacting us at Expekt.com.

Please note that these bets will be paid out when the whole season has been played.

    Have a nice evening.

I think it's a little odd that they are holding my winnings and my risked money until regular season is over. What do you think?

This is very common. No one pays out wagers involving season totals until the season is over.

It was for the Regular season and that is not over so there for technically the bet is not over. Relax you win get your money. They pay their bills.

What if the players decide to strike? Or there is a national disaster so the season can't finish? Most books don't pay until the team plays its last regular season game.

Of course, it's only relevant if there is a minimum number of games each team must play, according to the rules of the book.
If there is a minimum and the teams have already reached it, it's shortsighted of a book (offshore or Nevada) to not pay once the bet is decided.
Instead of paying the player and giving him the chance to replay the money, the book holds it unnecessarily in those cases.

I had the same question a couple weeks ago, I took the over on the Thunder which went over about 3 weeks ago, was told the same thing you have to wait until the end of the season.

What if your bet lost, but the season ended early? Wouldn't you be demanding a push? so the book pays the winners early, and refunds the "almost lost" after the season ends early?

Why would you demand a push? Were they going to take some losses off the board if the season continued?

Not true. Some books do grade when the bet has been decided.

I took the Cavs to win their division at Sports Interaction. When they clinched, I sent them an email asking them to grade the bet. They did.

I don't understand why books don't grade the bets right away. I realize the season isn't over yet, but the outcome has been 100% determined. If you bet team X over 45.5 wins and they just won their 46th game, that bet should be graded immediately...

If you have another case like this, ask your request to be forwarded to sportsbook department as Expekt always pays bets if their outcome has been determined. What you have described is not book problem but customer support problem. The reason why it might be overlooked by them is, because they get tons of emails asking for bets to be paid out after first game of the season.

Most books have a rule that X number of games must be completed for a bet to have action. In MLB it's 160, so it's perfectly reasonable to expect a book to wait until 160 games are played to grade a winner. It's fairly common that a handful of rainouts in late season games are never completed in irrelevant games. Generally every team still plays 160 or 161 games, but if a team ended up only playing 159 games, the book would get freerolled if they'd already paid out one side as a winner but had to refund the other side as a void because the team only played 159 games.
