The English casinos and books are all folding to this new law, but how many books from Costa Rica, Caribbean, etc.. are folding??? None ( or not many)

This is a billion dollar industry and will only grow. Alot of books are licensed, regulated, and run a legitimate business.

The new law pertains to funding accounts. You don't think we will find a way to get our money offshore?

I don't blame Sbr one bit.

Like John said nothing will change except no links/banners.

This is a great site and I hope that they can stay afloat with the loss in advertising revenue and affiliate referals.

Good luck to SBR. Hopefully everything works out well for everyone.

Everyone suddenly seems to be listening to their lawyers. Thinks are changing for sure. Glad that a version of the SBR site will remain intacted.

The neocons ARE the terrorists, friends. Literally, figuratively, and everything in between.

Don't want to open this can of worms here, but here is my sig from another site:

                    --------------------------------------------------------

Do yourself a favor and watch just the third video; since no plane flew into the building, consider this to be any day BUT 9/11.

Next, watch the leaseholder of WTC 7, as well as -since 6 weeks!- the Twin Towers, admit to the decision to "PULL" WTC 7:

One can ignore the realities or change to meet them. We have a full staff in Costa Rica that gets better every day. In fact, in all seriousness, the SBR staff from Bill Dozer on down to thejunior live lines programmers are the best anywhere.

Our goal is to get better and better with our forum and our lines and certainly with our ratings. We won't risk our mission for the US based revenue. US visitors will still get 100% of our content just without the links. I think it well work well for all.

I thought the law stated that ISPs are to block the financial institutions that finance the gambling. Not the websites that take wagers.

How will bettors access the Sportsbooks then?

Thank you very much there SBRJohn, I am glad you are watching out for us and I think somehow these people in the Carribean countries will find a way to accomadate American bettors somehow. I applaud what Antigua is doing and I think they are doing the right thing. I think you can find people that are good people that will advertise at this site that will keep it going and you guys will find a way to keep it going also. I always say if there is a will there is a way. Thank you very much SBRJohn and everyone that has given out the effort on this site!

You know as several posters have pointed out, the law does not say it will block any gaming sites. I stand corrected on that. It says they will block any site guilty of violating 5263. That clause (i think thats the #) deals ONLY with financial institutions such as a Neteller.

I don't see any language in this law that would even suggest that any non-finanacial company is at risk of being blocked.

There is no way they can convict you of a crime for posting a link to another web site. It's called freedom of speech and it's protected. In addition, since you are in another country it is not your responsibility to obey US law! They can't arrest you solely because people from the US visit your site.

There is NO WAY the government will enforce a law making ISPs block web sites to United States citizens. It is completely unenforceable, will meet massive resistance, and it is unconstitutional. Even if they actually charged someone for this they would never get a conviction.

They are just trying to bully people around and look like they are doing something to combat the "evils" of online gambling.

John, if you are paranoid about this, do the following:

                              1. Eliminate all affiliate codes from your links.
                              2. Set something up so that the sites you refer people to automatically use the http referrer in the headers to give you credit for referring people instead of affiliate codes.
                              3. Don't cash or deposit referral money at a US bank.

I understand that the tree that yields survives the storm, and the tree that doesn't will break. But perhaps the issue here is climate control.

In my opinion, the best thing would be for everyone to simply ignore the gambling bill. Reminds one of a prisoner camp with 50,000 prisoners and 2 guards. As long as the people keep giving away their power, this government will expand its powers. We are dealing with totalitarians.

If everyone ignores this law, what will the government do? Arrest everyone? I don't think so. Arrest a few people, in the hope that everyone else will fall in line? Probably. Based on intimidation, isn't it? The whole point is not to fall in line. Do we really need to obey a law that would never have passed in the Senate, and therefore was sleazily attached to an unrelated bill that was certain to pass? Of course not. They're trying to make us believe that we do, but we don't. Why not? Because the government is supposed to represent the People. If it no longer represents the People, we, its employer, are free to discard it.

SBR is basically in the same boat as statfox and covers, which provide information, and have links to gambling sites.

The question is: are we all going to stand together, unafraid like lions, or are we going to be scattered to the winds, like scared little mice.

great thread here...still not sure how SBR will get in trouble for having links...I'm all for a conservative approach in things though, 'cause I don't want to lose SBR as a resource...
