Anyone had to provide a pencil traces of a credit card?

It seems at least one book is asking some players to physically brush a pencil over paper over a credit card and fax in the results.

I am thinking this is to prove physical possession of the card.

This is a new one to me? Anyone had to do this or think of a good reason why this would be required over a picture or scan?

Every time when you use a credit card and request payouts they will request this.

    stall tactic.

if they found that the card wasn't yours, would they send the deposit back to the CC?

This is stupid. A lot of what is being used to deposit is disposable, and sometimes there isn't even a physical card to go with a number. What's a book really going to do when you tell them you don't have a nameless gift card from 2 years ago? Steal your money? Oh, wait...

    what about non-phisical cards?

My bank has a function that when i want to buy something in internet they create a credit card number and CVV with the amount i want, only for internet purposes and only valid for one purchase

I've never had to do this online, but I've often had hotels & golf courses here in Europe take carbon copies (essentially the same thing) of a credit card imprint.
