Think about it. If you were a trader or even holder or accumulator of gold and and futures, deliverd and not, etc. Yesterday you could sell 1 ounce of gold and use it to buy 75 ounces of silver.

Today it's 71 ounces of silver, see why? You could now keep 4 ounces of silver and get your ounce of gold back. By trading at the fluctuation of the ratio you can accumulate both metals. In March, at the start of the pandemic, that chart has the ratio at 113.

Can we buy low and sell high between different cyclical strategies, especially if the seem to correlate movement?

Accumulating quantity of both metals, both metals are appreciating over a longer period at different rates. Are you making a parallel to sports gambling? Maybe the trades have to be short term to accumulate both metals. Does the sports market ebb and flow in that manner? Yes the game has become a game of specialists, as an I/T operations analyst by trade I’m more than cool with it. Ever since I was a kid I’ve had this love affair with stats and numbers.
Im a geek, It’s who I am, it’s what I do.

I’m big on Billy Beene and Money Ball and sabermetrics and all but I’m also old school where I say it’s also cool for a manager and play the hot hand even though it may go against what the numbers say.
It’s fine by me if a manager makes a decision or two by just going by his gut also.

We've already seen how the market has direction, it's one of the big points of the posting I've done.

But just how well can we predict the direction, and can we overcome the commission?

I said on Wed. that the MLB Contrarian Fund would go sideways, that's exactly what it's done.

The trick now is to find the direction it wants to go now, even if we have to wait for confirmation of direction before buying in.

Remember, like stocks, we don't have to buy at the lowest and sell at the highest, we can just buy and sell somewhere between the extremes, especially if we can get many plays between direction changes.

Nothing is for sure and there's always risk but it is mitigated when we have more plays, and not just trying to "time" the market surges.

Something like that.
