#212Be careful Jibby
I believe you can pay for your own healthcare and as noble as that is, it’s naive to believe you don’t need insurance
Its not just about being able to pay the medical bills, but it’s about being able to pay the rest of your bills for the rest of your life afterwards
I’ve seen some insane shit my man, 20k is a drop in the bucket. I paid 25k out of pocket for a surgery in Denmark 10 years ago.
That’s chump change. You worked hard for your money, don’t give it away.Comment -

#213it' s not as bad as u make it sound only 8 shootings resulting in injuries or death
In all, guns have been fired on school property in the US at least 18 times so far this year, according to incidents tracked by Everytown for Gun Safety, a gun control group. In eight of these cases, a gun was fired on school property, but no one was injured. Another two incidents were gun suicides, claiming the lives of one student and one adult on school property.

#214I would guess no one on SBR owns more ar15 platform based rifles than I but this is getting ridiculous. I am disgusted that mental health continues to be used as a scapegoat here. Ya, no shit mental health is an issue that should be addressed but no one even knows where to start on identifying or addressing these needs.
We do know where to start with gun control legislation
You Republicans want to walk off with the 2018 elections and WH in 2020, then fukking pass your version of gun control legislation and ban ar15 platform rifles. Steal that thunder from the left. I would fukking love it.
Control and own the narrative, ban the fukking rifles and nothing else. Make huge efforts to get the guns off the street.
2018 and 2020 gift wrapped

#215What happens if you get cancer? Or you have a stroke? Or have a serious car accident? You can do all the right things and something bad can still happen that could basically wipe you out.
The only thing that can wipe you out is an unforeseen health issue. That's why you insure against it.
I'm not going to quibble with your right to make a decision, but your decision here is very illogical. It's one thing if it's someone who is living paycheck to paycheck and that insurance payment really does impact their quality of life. Frankly, what are they insuring against? They don't have several million to lose. You do. Seriously man, think about it. I'm a nice guy. I care about you, Jibby. Get some damn health insurance, Obamcare or not.
I have a friend who's baby was in the NICU for 6 months. Their portion of the hospital bill was $800k. He was laughing to not cry, seeing all the bills coming into the house each day. He eventually filed bankruptcy. I have another friend who's husband battled cancer for 6 years before dying. His bills were over $5 million dollars. You have to be crazy to not have health insurance. But those 80/20 plans aren't worth a damn. Good luck paying 20% of a life threatening event.Comment -

And not be a dikk about it as a foreigner, but do you see it as bit concerning that you have been educated to think "only 8" school shootings where people were injured or killed in the first 6 weeks of the year is somehow easier to accept than 18?
Do you recall a day when you would have thought 1 school shooting in the year was a major issue? That's still how it feels in most countries..Comment -

#217Congress ALL line their pockets with lobbyist money. All of them. Republicans and Democrats, they all are on the take. It's perfectly legal. You can't beat them, so they all join them. Some of the best people with good intentions get caught up in Washington bureaucracy and end up taking the bait. It's basically impossible to challenge these special interests groups.Comment -

#218One significant health event can bankrupt even the most well to do. My insurance pays 100% for any life event. I've had 4 surgeries in the last 7 years (half from college football injuries that the university would never assume responsibility). 1 surgery took 20 minutes and cost $120k, another was $90k. Another was $50k and the last was $37k. These were not considered life threatening.

#219I can pay for any health emergency crisis out of pocket.. I'm different from you guys.. I'm single, retired, and have a nest egg. I know that's hard for some of you to fathom..
I don't like insurance of any kind period.. Like I said insurance companies are in business to make money.. I'm just not into insurance and don't need it or want it.. I'm talking about any kind of insurance in life.. I even take a bond out to self insure my automobiles... I save alot of money every year not paying insurance premiums.. I put that saved money away for an emergency if it ever happens.. I'm ready.. Is what it is....
I also give to charities of my choice.. I pay my taxes...Comment -

#222That's what you think. And maybe you could pay for a cancer battle. It would nearly wipe you out, but I guess you could. But why? If you have $5 million, it's your job to assess the risks to losing that wealth and then to figure out how to mitigate those risks. Health insurance is a no-brainer. So is an umbrella liability policy.

#226it used to be shocking to hear about a school shooting on the news but it happens so often now it's becoming a routine thing you become numb to it, sure you are angry u want something to be done but what is the answer, i think people see warning signs on these one man shooters but not enough people are stepping up and reporting them this guy had alot of signs sadly nobody did anything until too late
Locking down schools and having armed guards seems like treating the symptom and does not make for a great environment for kids to grow up. A state of fear and control. How will they run the world once in charge?.Comment -

#227America has a laundry list of cultural and societal problems that run deep causing the citizens to lose their collective minds
Everyone is stressed and a powder keg waiting to go off
Some people lose control or do not have to mental faculties to stop themselves
Some are just evil
These problems are too complex to solve in 10 seconds so we just ignore them
Our country is survival of the fittest, get mine attitude with no concern for the common good except feel good lip service
Guns just expose and exaggerate these problems and are the most efficient and romanticized way of showing rage against others
Other countries are far less violent societies, not just because they don't have guns, but because their cultures are not as selfish and status driven as oursComment -

#228I don't know either. It's like a cultural craze now. More gun control won't fix it now, but it's an obvious start if we don't want it to just keep getting worse.

it's sad and the problem is here in the United States. We just don't have the respect for one another here. i see australia is ranked 1st in this article with the least amount of shooting deaths per 1 million people
https://www.vox.com/policy-and-polit...cs-maps-charts
But there is a genuine problem developed here in Sydney now with bikies and criminal gangs shooting each other, and sometimes innocent people like lawyers they dont like, almost daily.
Here's todays http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/person-sho...15-h0w4qx.html
I don't think gun crime outside the criminal community on itself is particularly bad though, as unless you are or know a serious criminal, it's kind of tough to get your hands on an illegal pistol and impossible almost to get an auto rifle.
That's probably what stops our kids copy catting and shooting up schools more than anything else I'd think..Comment -

#231No I pay out of pocket if I need medical attention, but I am completely healthy and take care of myself.. I also know as much about the human body as some of these so called doctors do.
I'm not bragging but I'm worth several million dollars because I worked hard and smart over the past 25 years.. I don't need to pay for health insurance or any insurance for that matter. Insurance companies are in business to make money and I don't want to make them money... I'd rather put those large monthly health insurance payments in my own bank account and collect interest and go to a local clinic if I need medicine or a check up, I'll pay for that out of pocket.. If I break a bone I'll pay $20,000 out of pocket to have a skilled doctor fix it...
That should be my choice.. This is a free Country last I checked...

#232Even Kim Kardashian wants action taken now from government.
Kim Kardashian was just one of the celebrities NOT sending thoughts and prayers to Florida on Wednesday.
The 37-year-old took to Twitter to instead demand action from the government, after yet another American gun massacre left at least 17 dead Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.
'We owe it to our children and our teachers to keep them safe while at school,' she tweeted. 'Prayers won't do this: action will. Congress, please do your job and protect Americans from senseless gun violence.'

#239D2, I see where you’re coming from and 100% agree the nra owns the gop, but that should disgust republican voters that in reality their elected officials are more beholden to the nra than they are to their constituency. But they send their kids to school to. I promise you it’s not just liberals losing children in the mass school shootings, this should be a bi-partisan effort
People just have to decide enough is enough on this one. And when when enough people on both sides decide that no civilian should be owning an ar15 and people are tired of sending their kids to school one day and burying them the next, change will happen.Comment -

I will say, maybe the one way it could happen is if Trump himself flips and gets truly serious about it and demands specific actions from his party. Trump does to some extent have his own party afraid of him. He might be able to move the needle.
But he won't.
His opportunity is right now. Like today.
But he won't.

Let me guess, you really wanted to know if Kermits wife owned an armalite that sold out in 1959. You're being condescending
But this fact doesn't change regardless of how much bullshit you want to post, AR15's ( and yes, Im going to call all ar15 platform variants AR15's) were designed for war. Colt mass produced the AR-15 and marketed it TO THE MILITARY

try banning hi-capacity clips; limit all clips to 8 rounds....
but don't show your ignorance by calling for a ban of .223 caliber weapons..... those things are tiny
just because a gun "looks" military or bad ass doesn't make it any more f'n lethal.....
in other threads ive posted bullets side by side.... trust me, you'd rather get hit with a .223 bullet than a 150 gr ptd soft point bullet fired from my 7 mag or 300 magnumComment
