Washington (CNN)Hillary Clinton would beat Donald Trump in a general election match-up if the election were held today, a new poll shows.
Clinton beats Trump, 49% to 39%, head-to-head. She would be neck-and-neck with other GOP contenders -- including former tech CEO Carly Fiorina (45% to Clinton's 44%), retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson (46% to Clinton's 45%), former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (44% to Clinton's 45%).
January 24, 1983
In a trial heat for the 1984 presidential election, former Vice President
Walter Mondale is now leading President Ronald Reagan by a 53-44 percent margin. This
is the first time in modern political history that an incumbent president has run behind
his potential opponent so early in his term.
January 21, 1979
WASHINGTON. Jan. 26 - President Carter would easily defeat either former Gov. Ronald Reagan of California or former President Gerald R. Ford if the election were held today, according to the Gallup Poll.
Special to The New York Times
Interviews with 1.410 registered voters showed the President defeating Mr. Ford by a margin of 53 percent to 39 percent, and Mr. Reagan by a margin of 57 percent to 35 percent. The interviews were .conducted throughout the country from Dec. 8 to Dec. 11.

#43Irrelevant. Trump couldn’t be polled in 2016 accurate enough. He’s known and easy to poll now. You can tell a lot more. Districts Repubs usually win by 12....now win by 2. Many red districts have flipped blue since he’s been president. He’s extremely unpopular. Guy is finished.Originally posted by Mr KLCSeptember 28, 2015

#45You keep trusting the polls. I'm trying to get you to see two things. 1. They don't mean a thing this far out from the election historically when you are dealing with someone who is governing conservatively. 2. Again, Trump followers don't advertise it partly for fear of reprisal. The polls will mean nothing in the general election cycle, just like they did in 2016. Trump was as well known in 2016 as he is now. He didn't come out of nowhere. You guys on the left just keep on underestimating him and his following.Originally posted by vitterdIrrelevant.
