#52something tells me u are a corporate nut hugger who believes everything Fox News say's. To actually think the Republicans want this pipeline for jobs for Americans is about as funny as it gets. U think it has anything to do with big oil? Their big campaign donors who buy each and every vote from these scumbags u worship? Again to think the Republicans want jobs created when Obama is in office (or any democrat for that matter) is so hysterical even a child would laugh. To not know these cocksuckers have an agenda and it sure the hell isn't jobs, is about as naive as it gets.
Yea look at that 'GOP guy Obama' talking up the reality....oil/gas is key Thor. Live with it.
Regardless of what you believe the reality is simple. Pipelines and rigs provide jobs...blue collar and white collar. It gives Unions jobs. Nat Gas has helped reduce carbon emissions year over year. Oil is a must in modern society. Fracking and other methods have improved vastly over the past decades. Getting better and more efficient every year. I'll add that we've been 'fracking' since the 40's...just recently has it made news because of the boom in horizontal and slick drilling after it became able to do so....thats why the move from the more dangerous deep sea rigs and off shore plays that do lead to spills more often so you should appreciate that, if you're reasonable at least.
The XL project is a win win for everyone man...companies make money, unions make money, individual workers make money, support and indirect service companies make money....why the fuss?Comment -

#53Ed Shultz, MSNBC commentator, personally went to were the pipeline was going to go through.
Property owners were being harassed with strong arm tactics to put the pipeline through, feet from their front door.
If there is a leak, the property owner has to clean it up at his expense.
The proposed line will go over an aquifer that supplies water to a few counties. Just imagine a leak occurring over that.
The line will go through Indian land which they don't want. If it provided them jobs, maybe they would want it.
Would property owner get a monthly paycheck for the pipeline being on their land? It's not the same as finding
oil on the property and getting a royalty check each month.
Congress and the Pres are involved because it crosses from a foreign country. Inter state lines don't need congresses
approval.
Sometimes you have to put principles ahead of money, especially short term money.Comment -

Wow. let me point out to ya what 'big eddie' didn't add into that little segment.
The Ogalalla aquifer in question in the Husker state.....has had oil/gas pipelines running since before you or I was born. Tens of THOUSANDS of miles of pipes crossing and intersecting to be exact...Nebraska itself drills a few thousands barrels of crude directly through the aquifer...has been ramping up production in recent years actually. XL project is less than 300 miles of pipe to be added to the thousands upon thousands of miles already rolling through transporting the product.
Clean up - Transcanada is legally responsible for the cleanup, not the property owners. Thats already been hashed out in courts leading up through all of the scare tactics. You have to remember - the pipeline company is not the oil company...difference there. This is already above ground product that is simply being transported to refineries, not like a drilling rig with an open ended well gushing. And yes, the company has had to issue several plans to the courts and to the govt showing where, how and who will be on site to do the clean up should it actually happen. This is the key point of why a pipeline is vastly different than a well - the flow is controlled and can be stopped from several points to limit spillage due to a leak so all the amounts that could possible be lost are included into the clean up plans and have been approved by courts and govt regulators.

#55Kelly - forgot to address the landowner compensation and 'strong arming' points. Sorry, was getting my girl ready for her soccer game.
Anyways, they are offered monetary and insurance compensation. At last count before the court ruling a few months ago, over 70% of the Nebraska landowners had agreed to the easements and were getting paid a cash amount plus any crop damage or delays in crops due to construction was to be covered at market rates. The remaining holdouts had offers of $60k up to over $100k+ but are taking chances in the appeals courts and have been 'threatened' that the amounts will go down if they didn't comply...and they didn't...so now that the Senate has voted approval, House is sure too...Nebraska governor is in favor, all thats left is either fed approval for temporary permits or the state's commission to issue it which is most likely going to happen. So the land owners will probably still get paid but at lower rates and thats gonna be eaten into in their legal costs they did to file the suits.Comment -

#56Thanks for the info. Didn't know all that. Question still is, why are so many people are against it? Shultzy pointed
all that out. Some people don't like or want progress? They don't want to look out their front door to see a god
awful pipe no matter the monetary gain? They worked their whole lives building what they have and don't want
anyone destroying that?
If there is already thousands of miles of pipe running through Indian land, why are they bitching about this one?Comment -

Think about subdivisions...having gas lines under the houses that provide heating and so forth to homes...thats more of a danger to the public than this pipe used to just get material from storage to refinery...you don't walk out the door and see sewage lines, gas lines, fiberoptic cables in your yards or farm lands....only power alongside roads....but they are there nonetheless.Comment -

#61Depending on whose data you use we that between 2 and 10 TRILLION cubic feet of gas
We can't get to it, because the tree huggers won't allow fracking.
We have 100 years worth of gas we are sitting on, enough to be dependent on no country, yet Obama won't let us get to it.

Come on man, it's state by state. It all depends on what state has gas and if that
state has laws against it.
Here in PA, the only state in the union that doesn't charge gas companies extraction fees, our governor wants
to drill on state parks or at least curve under them. Protests galore on the capital steps. Where I hunt, they are
putting another line in beside the existing one over several mtn ranges.
My sister works for the state water works. She issues permits for them to use the surrounding water to frack with.
Lately, her dept has had personnel cuts. Guys who go to the sights and make sure the surrounding water supply isn't
getting contaminated. The ones she does have, have to lighten up on them.
I personally don't give a shit. I'm all for progress, safely.Comment -
