Might have been important 10 years ago...Ichiro is done. He's a shell of his former self. Just a big name now. He's basically worth 2 minor leaguers now. But who knows, sometimes a change of scenery does stuff for a player.

God Damn! I wish the M's would have dealt him while he was still peaking...now, it's kinda an eh deal. What most people don't know is that Ichiro was a thorn in Lou's side, as well as Boone, and some of the other M's from back in the day. Supposedly, and I still think you can see it, but Ichiro does little to add to the synergy of a team.

The fan ( yankees radio station) said he will be in yanks lineup. Dont know how true but the trade is final so he will def be in yankee uniform

For the Japanese, there are certain American iconic brands that are significant. The New York Yankees, IMO, is one of those brands. The change in uniform just might give the guy a second wind.

hits righties ok still and sucks vs lefties

the extra day or two off and early game exits may help him rejuvenate too

on days he is off he can be a pinch hitter/runner and defensive replac,ement...

Ichiro may just go back to Seattle in the off season anyways...

Prob be back in seattle but i like it for a 2nd half rental. Cant hurt them. Hes still better than ibanez. And as archie said getting a day or 2 off a week will really help his legs.

if nothing else Ichiro is a great fielder with a cannon arm... I dont think anyone is foolish enough to think this is 2003 Ichiro, but its still cool to hear such a big name get traded, totally unexpectedly, and to the Yankees of all teams.

The Fan is hardly a Yankee radio station. They broadcast Mets games. Aside from Francesa all those guys are Mets fans.

i dunno how much of a met station it is. More a New York sports station. Didnt the mets have a ban on their players from going on the station for awhile. or was it just a certain show? it doesnt come in great in my work vans so i rarely listen anymore

Its almost all Mets fans that broadcast. Boomer & Carton (not so much Boomer i dont think), joe & Evan, Somers.. I think Mark Mellusis is a yankees fan however.

Not really. Ichiro is a 38 year old FA making $17M and clearly on the downspin in his career. He's not responsible for the M's success or lack there of anymore. Smart move for M's I think, deal him for 2 pitching prospects and they still could resign Ichiro next season, this is surely just a rental for the Yanks. THey wont need him when Gardner comes back next season.

Plus, Ichiro could very well retire after this year

But they will soon realize this guy is trash and is 38 and can't hit for anything besides bloop singles.
