Is the next debacle of the American dollar going to be due to student loans?
If you have a spare hour, give this documentary a shot. Some of what is said is shit, others makes you think.

Partially agree JJ. College is important, but smaller colleges are so much more worth the money than the huge expensive University.
I make more money than many of my friends and I owe about 100,000 less on loans...and my party experience at college was Just as good.
I left school owing about 12 grand. I work with a buddy who makes exactly what I make, and he owes 130,000 to a big university.
College is supposed to be an education, not a status symbol.

I still owe $17,000 think I am going to stiff. Credit has long lost its value to me. Cash rules everything around me.

Students need to be somewhat aware of what they are going to do after they graduate. If you're getting some lame degree and won't be making much, it definitely does not make sense to go to a top private institution for 40-60K/year. =| Unless of course your rich parents have you covered...

Never had to borrow money when I was in college. If I was just out of high school today I would have to borrow. Tuition has went way up in the past couple of years.

I hate Citibank...I always imagine how much I would have if I didn't dish out the money I do each month to repay my loans...and I was led to believe College would set me up for a better life.....fuuuuuuuuuuuuukkkkkkk!!!!!!!

Don't do it man. Without credit you're deemed worthless in today's world. I know you probably don't think you need it, because you're ok without it now...but you need it.

Going to college now does not give you the upper hand. 70% of grads in 2010 are enrolled. Need something to make yourself stand out. Owning a business is the way to go and even that route there is a large failure rate. Can't win boys.

Deucer....
Is this anyway to inspire young people? Would you prefer to go into a business that was 100% guaranteed to succeed? Let me know when you find one.
Deliver a good product, at a good price, and your business will be a success. Regardless of what it is your selling.
Don't let Deuce get you down here, boys.

The part about people using student loans for housing, computers, and food. Of course they have to, they are in school. They need to live. I don't agree either with their calculations of making 35k right out of high school and knocking down the college grad will make 1 mil more in their lifetime. Their calculations were flawed, other than that, I thought it was a well put together piece.

Most college grads cannot get jobs anymore
Companies have really downsized
Kids all loaned up when they graduate and will never be able to save money
Yeh the real smart elite grads get jobs but that is not the norm

Not worth it spending 100K+ on an education only to get a job sitting in a cubicle making 60K a year and having some 30 year old turd telling you what to do.

Nearly impossible to stiff on student loans, if that's what you're referring to. Student loans can't be dismissed by bankruptcy, and the gov't will just take any tax refund you get, or will garnish your wages.

I think what will happen is students will start to defunct on their debts. 830 billion dollars right now in student loans out. That is more than CC debts. It will be known as the "College" bubble, much like the housing bubble, the government will bail out students. It will be a trickle down effect. This is what happens when you don't check up on the students you're giving tens of thousands of dollars to without checking their credit or educational goals. It will be a sad state of affairs. What will the government then do, tax their social security check if they make it that far? No, they won't have it to give out at that point anyhow.

who the fukk is spending 100k on school? morons...what's the point of going to a school that expensive if you don't have a scholarship. The university i attend is about 14k a year and I'm probably getting just as good of an education as someone attending a non ivy league school.

Undergrad here is like 300 a credit hour or 1200 a class. I pay in state tuition though which is huge. 4800 a semester which is close to 10k a year, 40k for a degree roughly. Not to mention though 10k in books/food/housing. Still though, 50k is a lot of be in debt when you come out with a piece of paper.
