Eminem, without a doubt for me. Go beyond all the crappy stuff that gets him recognized in the media (songs about killing, raping, etc), and he has some truly amazing music. There is just so much emotion in it, and it speaks to anyone who feels they are alone/depressed/misunderstood/etc.

Lose Yourself, Rabbit Run, 25 To Life, and Space Bound are songs I would highly recommend for people who want to give him a shot. The culture of his music might not appeal to older crowds, but the message is there, and its impossible to ignore the passion and skill that Em puts into it. Definitely the voice of my generation

My best friend was killed in Nam.

My dad was shot three times in WWII fighting the Goddam JAPS. He never complained but always was in pain until he died. His brother lost an arm in Germany. He never complined but died an alcoholic.

I respect all opinions.....but go to hell you anti panty waste. You make me sick.

Either your a idiot or you just dont understand lyrics. The song is not about our military not doing thier job its about a world without war and world peace.

Now if we had the power to bring our soldiers home from war we would have never missed a christmas no more ribbons on their doors......

what in that phrase leads you to believe the writer is talking about not doing your duty. Hes saying if there wasnt a war or hate on this planet our neighbors wouldnt be dying for that cause.

              Me and all my friends
              We're all misunderstood
They say we stand for nothing and
There's no way we ever could

Now we see everything that's going wrong
With the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don't have the means
To rise above and beat it

              So we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change
              We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

It's hard to beat the system
When we're standing at a distance
              So we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change

Now if we had the power
To bring our neighbors home from war
They would have never missed a Christmas
No more ribbons on their door
And when you trust your television
What you get is what you got
Cause when they own the information, oh
They can bend it all they want

Started with Townes Van Zandt.. (Worth exploring for many)

My last post on this site. TVZandt is one of the few writers/song guys who has meaning. Other great writers..etc....are out there.

Give him a shot... I listed a few songs to check out in my post. I obviously agree with a lot of the "traditional" songwriters listed in this thread, so I figured I would mix it up a bit and throw in someone from my generation. Almost a "dark horse" candidate. "Lose Yourself" is probably the best song to come out in the 2000s, of any genre

                                              Great thread
