It's not really answering your question, but I went to college in Central Florida and the step-father of one of my professors was a pro Jai Alai player. The professor told many stories about his step Dad fixing matches in the '70s and '80s and the mafia having covert ownership of the frontons. That was a long time ago, of course, but I've never heard anything about the mafia being kicked out of jai alai, and the stories were enough to convince me to stay away from the game.

I grew up in Boca Raton
Knew plenty of jai alai players
Very intriguing sport
[B][B]They key isn't getting rich quick. The key is getting rich slowly, and enjoying it.
Used them a few times and now they wont take my jai alai bets

Most of the fixing stories are BS. It did happen a bit in Milford but that's just a few players acting to lay down. It's not even really enough to overcome the 2o% or so hold if knew 2 of the 8 posts won't hit the board.
It's very tough to fix a game for a specific difficult trifecta like a 6-8-5, 7-8-6,5-8-7 etc. You'd need all 16 players and 3 judges involved and could easily fail to get an exact finish. There's just not enough money there to attempt it.

when i was still a kid i use to ask someone to bet for me
going to tell you about the greatest fix ever in jai alai history, btw i played the game a lot recreationally in melbourne florida, and i loved
it very much and you have no idea the skill it requires to master this game
the orlando fronton had a pick six roll over, of course nobody ever hit it, and it had to be won on the last day of the season
i know for a fact they would make sure nobody hit the pick six , i knew the coach of the players, and they were warned when some ticket had the first four winners and to be sure the last two legs were lost
so my buds and I put some cash together to take a shot at it, it was around 300k the payout
we naively just picked birthdays and shit like that, ignoring the bias to winners on the lower digits
well surprise surprise , there were two winners that day or should i say TWO TICKETS
and guess what the results were, ALL 5 and below
so do the math
5*5*5*5*5*5 times two dollars per ticket= $31250
of course they bought two tickets in case some other fuker got lucky and they did not want to SPLIT it with them, in that scenario they got two thirds

Get an account with CT OTB if you can, and phone in bets. That's the best I can do.
ToteBet wasn't something I liked, and if they limit jai alai winners, I can't roll with that.
BEST OF ALL: Legal.

Unfortunately, I've never known a local or anywhere online that gets involved with jai alai. I can tell you from personal experience, however, that with the proper amount of research, it is a FABULOUS way to make money. I once went to the fronton 31 days in a row; one of the best months of my life. I wish I lived within 15 minutes of live jai alai.

Anyone betting on Jai alai these days???????
I have not bet Jai Alai online but I have gone down to Florida a few times just to watch and bet it. I absolutely love Jai Alai and think it is seriously one of the most intriguing exciting sports out there....Wish it wasn't a dying thing though....really need something to bring it back.

Cool sport. Ball has been clocked 180 mph. I can watch Jai Alai without betting on it unlike a horse or dog race.

Bet the numbers rather than the players. I hit a 1-2, 1-2 quinella double back in the 90s at Dania for $1100 on a 2 dollar bet.
Then the IRS attacked me 2 years later for the taxes.
Assholes.

First saw jai alai at the Tampa Fronton back in the mid '60's. Wonderful liquor soaked nights spent in a haze of blue smoke at that fronton. The smell of fine Cuban cigars would permeate the air. Had the feel of being in Havana in there. Mostly hot local Cuban girls would circulate in the crowd taking your bets. An experience for a youg kid to treasure in those days.
Plenty of classy hookers too, some of whom you might find at Rick Casares' Huddle Lounge further north on Dale Mabry later in the night. The Huddle was notorious in it's day. 8,9, and some 10's.... very well dressed in there night after night..... all for sale and wide open. Located only a block or two from the present day Mons Venus. Casares, a Tampa native, was the bruising fullback who was the backbone of the Chicago Bears running attack in the late 50's
Later maybe about '81 or so, enjoyed partidos between Tampa Fronton's Bolivar, the best ever IMO, and Joey.
Joey was a Miami Fronton player and unquestionably the best ever American in the jai alai business.
Boys I could write a book about my early Tampa experiences. Absolutely miss Jai Alai, but more for the ambience, whores and boozy nights than the gambling. Better gambling opportunities with the dogs at Derby Lane in those days. Would hit both spots most nights as The Fronton was just a few minutes away from the dogs east on Gandy Boulevard at Dale Mabry.

Is that Joey "the Jew"? I believe I remember him at Dania in the early 90s. The Miami fronton was a dump to compared to Dania at that time.
Frankly, the best bet was to fade him in your quinella, perfecta and trifecta picks.
(Nobody really bets WPS in jai alai.)

That would be affirmative. Joey Cornblitt, Jewish boy from Miami. I am hardly an authority on Miami or Dania. In fact never saw Jai Alai there. Perhaps Joey was over the hill ten years later in Dania. I don't know sir. But he was a hot commodity at one time.
Actually owned a cesta in the late 70's.....early '80s, and with a good buddy of mine we would bang a pelota off a handball wall at USF. Would get chased by campus police but would always come back. Good conversation starter with some coeds on campus.

But he was a hot commodity at one time.
He was still very good in the early 90s, and may have been considered to be the best player at Dania, getting his share of wins. However, the wagers on him were WAY over his actual value.

Well I grew up in Plantation, Fl and going to the Dania fronton in the early 90's was a big thing for my buds and me. Thing is we just used to go and heckle the hell out of the players. Joey was at the end of his career back then but still was hands down the best dam player there. I swear you could yell anything at the players and refs. We had nicknames for all of the players. And they even used to give us the finger when we yelled at em. As far as winning, we didn't make much scratch betting, although it was fun. 1.00 general admission and 2 dollar hot dogs and unlimited fun yelling "Fat-Ass" at players and even worse stuff. The ushers didnt give a crap what you did as long as you were gambling. I sure miss those days, but sadly Jai-Lai has gone the way of the dodo in Florida.

Yeah, I remember seeing a lot of that. I guess the only "heckling" I did was when I lost out on about a 1200 trifecta when the player catches the ball off the serve way up front and has an easy toss against the wall for an easy win, and then just drops it into the red padding. I was sitting near the front, and couldn't help but blurt out, "you fukking asshole." He gave me a pretty dirty look.
