I just read this and I thought everyone would like to know. It is great for online poker players.

This could be the beginning on all wagering in the future. I am totally for this no doubt. This is why I am not a big fan of the GOP.

Card games such as poker have finite odds, JJ. Sports do not.

I'm not sure if this is a good bill for sports bettors especially on sites like Bodog (with poker and sports). I know previous versions had banned sports wagering for approved sites. Unless they remain a rogue, unapproved site, things there would have to change.

I don't play poker but if this legislation will pave the way for legalized sports wagering in the US it's a good thing, I think.

The thing for me is that I am quite happy with the way things are now. I have never had any problems playing, funding or withdrawing from books off shore. Also, will the tax placed on the books lead to more juice or lesser bonuses ????

jjgold at least it is something then someday it is going to happen when they will include sports also. You know them casinos out there want it but right now they are taking it one step at a time. They can make an awful lot of $$$ on this and they know it!!

              Baby steps.

That is the important thing here. Fine, let poker be legalized first. Let it show how profitable and drama-free it can be, and then slowly let sports wagering creep in.

This bill will have nothing to do with legalizing sports gambling for this to happen the federal ban on sports wagering would need to be lifted.

As Monkey suggested this bill does not appear to be good news for sports gamblers since sports gambling will still be illegal in a majority of the country. This bill will allow the opportunity for the government to rewrite the laws pertaining to offshore sports books that they failed to eliminate with the unlawful internet gambling enforcement act.

Anybody who was around in 2006 when the UIGEA was passed and witnessed how all books stopped taking US player action for a short period until they found ways around the law should realize that this is a chance for the government to take another shot at offshore books and we may not be as fortunate to have the books find ways around the new law.

UIGEA was enough to run some of the better books like Pinnacle out of the US permanently. Another chance for the US to go after offshore sports wagering is not good in any way.

If you are a hardcore sports bettor you should not want this law to pass because things are working just fine now but may not be if this bill passes.

This would be bad for US online sports bettors. It will either make betting online explicitly illegal or make it even harder to deposit and withdraw. Only good for poker, but it's probably not going to happen.
