I Googled "Players Talk" And Came Up With...
an old thread that had been closed in 2008. I won't discuss the subject, but it had to do with odds being set on a possible event happening in the near future. How does Google pick this thread out of all the threads that have been done here?

It has to do with the amount of time the thread spent on the PT main page, how many other sites/pages of quality are linking to it, if the keywords you searched happen to occur in the body of those threads, the type of media that might be in it, and many other things like what Google determines is relevant. For example, If someone put a lot of work into their mysbr blog the threads they link to would strengthen those topics with engines. If you search Players talk and SBRforum you get a different group of threads.

Since you posted it here, I guess its OK to bring it up. I didn't think it looked good that "Barack Obama Assassination Odds" came up with the search. Kind of makes us look like a terror cell instead of a sports handicapping board.

At that time of the thread some bookmakers put odds on it. The blogs and forums jumped on it as the sportsbooks intended. Viral marketing in bad taste. No one bets these things which are made to penetrate mainstream media.
