A Laundromat is a great investment. One of my buddies opened one up like 4 months ago and it's going really well.
No matter how broke people are, or how bad this country gets. People still need to wash their clothes!

When you pick %75 winners why would you even risk opening up a business? Just print money for a living at %75 that is all. Money printing business what more do u want?

Demolition of plants and warehouses. Basically gutting, selling whats good, and getting money from bankers to clean out facilities. Lots of opportunity here in Michigan and across the country. Esp. automobiles plants. Lots of cash to be made.

He's right. Also, you have to have title to the properties to do that kind of work (or owner has to agree to sub that work out to you).
You can't just drive up to the Packard plant and start demolition. Although, illegal work would probably be more profitable. Copper wires, any electronics, pipes, etc. are getting good margins on illegal side.

Do you really think 20k is a lot of money? I could throw 20k in the trash can and be fine.

He said bank owned....but i'm wondering why a bank would want the building gutted??? Unless it was going down.

you have to bid on bank-owned property.
First of all, the foreclosure process takes time. Then the bank has to decide what to do with the decrepit property - they're idiots so this takes a long time. Then there is a competitive bid process IF they decide to demolish it.
Wealthy contractors with $ bid on these kinds of projects.

Deuce, I am interested and local. I have lots of experience/knowledge in disposing and finding value. Been studying foreclosers and business liquidation auctions for a long time knowing the time is ripe to make a bundle. I specialize in automotive. I have immediate access to the cash and been looking for an investment.

I do not know what a 20k investment is going to get you, demolition business requires manpower and equipment and of course disposal costs, tough business to crack. I am not interested.
Deuce do you even have $500????

My two cents:
My parents own a laundromat; I think the net profit and sustainability will not be very high without additional services: dry-cleaning pickup/dropoff, tailoring (just small things like adjusting sleeves or hems), and wash&fold. These will require semi-skilled and unskilled laborers, and some kind of business partnership with an actual dry cleaner (you'll make a ton off the spread though). In addition, you'll need to find a good location; ie, lots of apartment buildings and maybe a large grocery store in the same shopping center; the gold mine would be a college campus though (if you're close enough, you should try to arrange a delivery service).
And of course, the hours will be pretty long, and the laundromat deals with a lot of cash; surprisingly (slight sarcasm), getting workers for a laundromat who are actually trustworthy with cash is very difficult. Otherwise, you'll be working 12 hr days, 7 days a week.
You'll need these features if you want to compete against the Korean who'll open shop down the road a year or two later and run you out of business (which is exactly what my parents did...).

That would be one stupid business to go into right now. Times are tough in construction or Demolition business right now. Jobs like you are talking about are mostly let out to bids with low bidder getting the job. Companys are low bidding jobs in these times just to get cash flow, many leave profit off the table and just want money coming in. Trust me I know, I work for the government and see every month companys going below Engineer's cost estimate on projects.

now is a good time to by a foreclosed house in detroit. fix it up and you can easily flip it for a nice-sized profit within two years.
