    Forget the facts

Old folks will blame the current party in power

Seniors and disabled Americans will not get a cost of living increase in their Social Security checks next year.

The government is expected to make the announcement at the end of this week.

The news is not going over well with seniors...

        Looking at reality........

I read this and did a little google....

Right now my SS would be $865 with the average person today receiving close to $700? We've contributed more to SS then most in all their working years. So basically they are seeing a great return on their stipend contribution to the fund.......

Hopefully in 20 years the return will be the same for us?
Hope someone can calculate the return people today are receiving on their investment? These #'s are ballpark figures.......

        Did the math on
60 hour work week with time and 1/2 = $61 a week times 4 times 12 = $2928 year times 7.65%= $233 invested a year times 40 year working b4 retiring =$9000 total contributed, MINIMUM. $8400 is the least a person receives each year after retiring.

Today 60 hour week in 2010 with time and 1/2 = $507 a week times 4 times 12 = $24360 year times 7.65% = $1864 invested a year times 40 years working b4 retiring = $74560 total contributed. just collecting on your investment today, you would need to live 7 years after retiring. Unless in 20 years the average doubles.

Remember if your a specialist and earning or have earned at least $10 an hour this becomes........

        What Things Cost in 1953:

Car: $1,850 saying this entitles the average person to receive

        Gasoline: 29 cents/gal

        House: $17,500

        Bread: 16 cents/loaf

        Milk: 94 cents/gal

        Postage Stamp: 3 cents

        Stock Market: 281

Minimum Wage: 75 cents per hour

Average Annual Salary: $4,700 using above formula total investment would be $14382 amazing

My uncle said he wished he could've invested his monies in a Insurance policy!

        Crazy........

The COLA increase, or lack of it, is not the fault of either party. It is a formula that is used to determine if there will be an increase. Older Americans have seen their life go downhill because of other cuts in funding. I live in a city that has a large number of retirees, who live on a fixed income. Because of the ridiculous spending spree that the Democrats and Arnold have gone on in the past 3 years in California, and the Liberals in Washington going bonkers, the elderly have had their services cut. It is getting so bad that the many "Snowbirds" (elderly people who come out here for the winter) have stopped coming out, causing a loss of income to the city, and a real mess in the real estate market. That is the real problem.

Hope we are all as lucky to see that type of return on our "contributions" down the road?

The current generation of retirees are the most selfish people on the face of the Earth.

They bitch and moan that they aren't getting enough even though they are getting way more than they are entitled to.

With that being said, the fact that the federal government is freezing social security checks is the first small sign of fiscal sanity and the Obama administration should NOT be punished for it. However, since Obama continues to blame every single one of our country's problems on the republicans even though they have been out of power since 2006, its only fair that this social security freeze hurts the democrats next month.

You are forgetting some very important points here. When ss was started it was supposed to be voluntary. Then the dems voted it to be mandatory. It was also non taxable then the dems voted that away also. It was also supposed to be a separate restricted fund then the dems overturned that and started borrowing against the restricted funds that were supposed to be voluntary! The dems have put us into this mess so I don't fell sorry for what the do or don't get blamed for. They deserve what is coming to them in November!

I wonder how many people here actually read the title and immediately thought about the softdrink?
