    Baseball question about Wrigley Field
Its obvious to anyone that the wind is the biggest factor in scoring at Wrigley Field, when it blows out a popup becomes a HR but Im curious what exactly happens when the wind blows in, does it not blow in as hard as it blows out bc it seems like HRs would be almost impossible if it did, it also seems like pitching speed records would be set (wouldnt a 100 mph fast ball become a 110 or so) or does the wind really only affect the ball when it gets up in the air. Also does a 100 mph fast ball become a 90 mph or so fastball when it blows out?

Does anyone have any specific info on this ballpark

No, the only pitch that might be affected is the knuckleball.

I see, so basically the ball is too low and traveling too short a distance to really be affected by the wind

It just seems like if a 30+ mph wind is pushing against the pitcher or behind the pitcher that it would affect the ease of his whole motion and for that matter the batters motion ya know but perhaps at ground level the wind is not that big a factor

I play golf (not well but I do play sometimes) and I know that a strong gust of wind can just blow ya over and make a swing into the wind feel much tougher to make (feels like you are fighting the wind) and down wind it just feels like the wind is pushing you faster to the ball, that's where Im coming up with this question, it just seems like your swing speed would have to be faster or slower based on a strong wind so seems like a pitchers speed would be the same way but I know they're two different sports

Most home runs hit with the wind blowing in are line drives/frozen ropes hit near the poles.

i agree with bettilimbroke999 that only hard wind matters, players also get irritated by winds over 15 m/hr i guess so the percentage of win plays is high there too
