Just saw JJ Hardy for the Twins come very, very close to hitting a home run but White Sox Juan Pierre caught it.Of course he was trying for a home run and if he would have accomplished it,he would have been charged with an at bat.Since he drove in a run and got an RBI on his fly out,he wasn't charged with an at bat.Is that a dumb scoring rule in anyone's opinion?

I can understand the similar rule for bunting, just not for fly outs.

no. he would have also been credited with hit. and every player doesn't mind being charged with an at bat as long as he gets a hit to go along with it. why should he be penalized with an at bat when he drives in a run with a long fly ball. good rule, it will never be changed. conversely you don't get an rbi when you ground into a double play that scores a run from third. another good rule that will never be changed.
