    Laptop Information
I have been using a toshiba satellite laptop for a few years. It is okay but it is getting old and i'm looking for an upgrade. What laptops would you all recommend?

I don't need something over the top, just the basics of browsing the internet, listening to music, making videos, etc.

My job got me this Gateway that is unreal. So fast, has an Intel Core i5 processor in it, big 17" screen, Windows 7, the works, and it's only $650.

I'm thinking a Dell with similar specs would easily be in 4 figures.

    I highly recommend it, the NV79 http://www.gateway.com/systems/series/529598122.php

Massive differences, I don't have time to explain I have to go to sleep. Google Windows 7.

It is so sleek and fast, I love it, and I was one of the people who HATED Vista compared to XP.

I would get a new Macbook, by far the best laptop out. I have two of them and would be lost without them. It is so much cleaner and smoother than any other kind of laptop. Even if you are just cruising around the internet, you will be very happy.

I have a Macbook and Macbook Pro. I have Office Mac 2008 on both of them, I use the Powerpoint all the time, I do mobile presentations, it's a must.

I have never used a mac before, so I would probably pass on that. I just need an upgrade though

Asus is a brand that is becoming dominant without many talking about it....good pricing too.

Yeah don't jump on the ban wagon and buy a mac book. Some software and websites have compatibility problems with them and the laptop isn't so cheap either. If your looking for general use then get with a newer model of the Toshiba laptop or an HP brand.

Apple is a fine company. They overcharge but they have good products, great customer support and excel in usability. If you don't care about getting a deal just go with that. Just take into account that games and such will take a longer to get ported to this platform.

Other than that, your computer requirements will depend on use. Netbooks are great if your primary computer functions are e-mail/facebook/school/youtube (i.e. small computing requirements). If you want to play games, stream HD video, video/photo edit you'll need a beefier laptop.

As to which brand to choose if you're not going apple the default choice is with building your own at dell. If you value your time this is the best route. If you're willing to inject time into the equation a deal can be found if you scour reviews, choose a brand, narrow the computer model and peruse deal sites. Just don't take so long it becomes obsolete.

I use XP on my netbook and Windows 7 on my laptop. Windows 7 is better than XP(loads faster, looks better, is customizable etc.

Thanks for all the suggestions. as far as mrmarket's comments I would need a slight upgrade over traditional uses. I like to edit videos. I don't really play games on the comp other than 1 or 2 and don't watch movies too often online. So a slightly beefier version of a comp would be nice.
