I convinced a friend I met at a tennis tournament this weekend to open up an online account with thegreek. I went with her today to a western union to deposit funds and we met a complete idiot behind the counter.
So she filled out the form with the location being MONTEVIDEO, URUGUAY. I told her she really didn't need to write Montevideo and Uruguay was sufficient but she still wanted to write it out the way The Greek told her. Anyway, we bring the form to the clerk. Despite everything being clearly written the following convo took place
Clerk: What country do you want the money sent to?
Friend: Montevideo, Uruguay
Clerk: I don't understanding.
Friend: The country is Uruguay. Montevideo in Uruguay.
Clerk: You want to funds sent to MONTENEGRO?
Friend: (With a bit of a raised voice) NO! URUGUAY. The city is Montevideo!
(I'm beginning to laugh)
Clerk: What's that?
Friend: What's what? I don't understand?
Clerk: What is Montevideo?
Friend: The city the person lives in. The country is Uruguay?
Clerk: Ok in the future please just write the country only.
Friend: Ok I'm sorry it's my first time.
At this point he starts typing things in the computer and I tell my friend make sure to double check everything on the paper before we leave. The clerk then tells her the fee is $80. (She was sending $2,000). I was shocked when I heard the fee. I thought it was a really high price but it's been years since I made a deposit so I figured prices just went really up.
Well the clerk produces the printout for her to sign. I looked at the name and it was correct. Then looked underneath to the country and what did I see....
UZBEKISTAN!!!!!
Figured why the fee was so high. It ended up being $40 for Uruguay which I still think is high but figured it was a lot of cash. We spent about 35 minutes at the place between the back and forth, and then a good 20 minutes with the clerk on the phone to ** trying to fix the county mistake.
I go to that ** often but usually at night. Luckilly that clerk doesn't work when I go
Trying to waste some time before the MLB games begin. 10 minutes left.......
