    Calgary Flames hire Darryl Sutter as head coach

    Currently 35 to 1 odds to win the cup.

    Sutter instantly makes them a playoff team and he is a very good coach. May be worth a look.

    Team has been garbage but the Kings were too before hiring Sutter for their cup wins. I truly believe a good coach can make a huge difference in hockey. They just went from having the worst coach in the league to a top 5 coach.

    They will still need a Johnathan Quick to steal a dozen games or so.. Kings won one of their cups with every series going 7 games and Quick was the reason they won, more than anything...

    Markstrom is a top 3 goalie in the league. They have played absolutely brutal and their defensive system has been bottom in the league.

    Sutter will clean up the defense. While they probably don't win the cup, it is worth a shot at those odds with this coach.

    Do you know how the playoffs work this year? All they have to do is beat 2 of Edmonton, Toronto or Winnipeg and they are in the conference finals.

    They beat Winnipeg last year with an inferior coach. Edmonton has 2 players. The Leafs are known chokers.

    Very good chance with this coach.

    I’m well aware of how the playoffs work. They’ve looked great the last couple games but I still don’t know how you can think this team has a chance at the cup if you’ve watched them the last few years with this core.

    I hate seeing guys getting hurt in fights but Ritchie putting Khaira to sleep after that hit was pretty awesome.

    Flames already back to looking like their normal selves. They are closer to the sens than the leafs in the standings right now.

    I still like Sutter even though Calgary sucked couldn't even beat crappy Ottawa, Sutter will help Calgary next few years.

    True, but even Sutter can't make them better in less than a month. This year might be done but I'll take Calgary to win more games starting April or so - probably not enough to make playoffs but at least enough for players to get used to Sutter for next year.

    Your call in original post was good bet at that time, your logic sound, you're right that for any Northern team including Calgary to win conference isn't a stretch.

    Winnipeg I think will win North, last year Calgary was lucky Winnipeg got injured for playoffs.
