Sutter instantly makes them a playoff team and he is a very good coach. May be worth a look.

Team has been garbage but the Kings were too before hiring Sutter for their cup wins. I truly believe a good coach can make a huge difference in hockey. They just went from having the worst coach in the league to a top 5 coach.

Markstrom is a top 3 goalie in the league. They have played absolutely brutal and their defensive system has been bottom in the league.

Sutter will clean up the defense. While they probably don't win the cup, it is worth a shot at those odds with this coach.

I’m well aware of how the playoffs work. They’ve looked great the last couple games but I still don’t know how you can think this team has a chance at the cup if you’ve watched them the last few years with this core.

True, but even Sutter can't make them better in less than a month. This year might be done but I'll take Calgary to win more games starting April or so - probably not enough to make playoffs but at least enough for players to get used to Sutter for next year.

Your call in original post was good bet at that time, your logic sound, you're right that for any Northern team including Calgary to win conference isn't a stretch.
