Do Golf Caddies make good money?

Former PGA Tour caddie Alfred “Rabbit” Dyer says that caddies may earn salaries of*$2,000 per week, while “Forbes” magazine reports that PGA Tour caddies typically receive about*$1,000*each week. The magazine said in a 2007 article that Steve Williams, then caddying for Tiger Woods, earned*$1.27 million*in 2006.

    Is this true?

Most caddies starve to death. Only the top players guys make good money. The travel expenses are well over a grand a week.

Average caddy on the PGA tour is about 60K per year, but travel and per deem are paid by the golfers sponsors usually. There are caddy's that work for local country clubs around the country that do just as well without all the travel, though, it's a very hard job to get.

The real perks come when they let the caddies use the Country Club pool...

Caddy would be too much pressure for 60K.

That's just your average, very little known tour pro's. Top 100 golfers caddies make much more. They have to walk the courses very early morning before each round and spend a lot of hours studying courses that are coming up for his boss. There is some pressure, but not a whole lot. I'd say it's more hours than it is pressure.

I've uncovered some good golf bets by finding out where the golfer's caddy was in the weeks leading up to a tournament. It's not well known info, once I was directed to a random twitter post then looked further.

Most guys get a set amount per week. I know a guy that he and his brother caddied and drove the golfers bus around the country. He was given $1500 a week but also never had to pay for food or anything else. Plus anything his player made he got 10% weekly. Plus these guys get to play most of the courses earlier in the week. Sweet life if you are single.

Caddie game is way different these days. They used to make next to nothing and travel around in carny shanty towns. Now, a lot of the guys are really close with their caddies. They get taken care of much better. I remember when Steve Williams and Tiger had two Masserattis waiting for them in Dubai I believe. Whatever the event where Tiger was guaranteed a milly pay day just to show up. Golfers now have swing coaches, trainers, sports psychologists, caddie...it's getting similar to the fight game. Lots of money, but a lot goes out too.

Arrangement for most is 7 percent of a player's earnings, 10 percent if it's a major. Keep in mind they normally have to find their own transportation from event to event, find a place to stay, etc., etc. There are a lot of expenses . . . and taxes. There are a lot of streaks where income is thin because your player takes three or four weeks off in a row, then he misses the cut in three or four events in a row; it's easy to go three months and make nothing.

It's more than an adequate way to make a living if you're working for the right guy.
