My father (born 1920) was more of a hobby collector of coins than an investor - he worked in las vegas as a young man and for some reason collected $1 silver coins which was easy to do back then...

when he died he had a 1/4 of a foot locker full !! - His second wife got all of them but she gave me 20% in cash of the market value - I guess her children have them now

I was buying up 10oz bars and smaller in the Fall of 06 when the price was hovering around $13.25. I could not believe that a non-replenishable precious metal that's used in consumer goods could be so damn low. Sold almost half my take when it hit $22 and wishing now I had just kept a hold of it. Or just sold it all when it hit $50.
