People act like Lakers got Howard for absolutely nothing, they traded away a pretty good player (when he is healthy and his head is screwed on straight). Like I said getting Nash made them better than getting howard for Bynum. Ad in the fact Howard wont be starting and the lakers are already worse off, at least bynum would have been playing at the start of the season.

This season is basically their best shot with this line up. And it is already inhibited by howard not being there for the start of the season. Odds he stays past this year IMO are less than 30%, so therefore it is all or nothing this year. But even if he does stay then what? What do you do going forward? Howard is obviously going to be the center piece so what do you do with everyone else?

Will you be able to get people to come to LA to play with him? They got some talent in Orl but that still wasnt enough.

Lakers totally mortgaged their whole franchise on a guy who is coming off back surgery, wont be able to start the season, doesnt have a contract and has shown he is a coach killer and self absorbed crybaby. So he and Kobe have some things in common so he will probably fit right in.

You guys act like Howard is signed sealed and delivered for the next 5 or 6 years and is the same guy ESPN has over hyped for the past 5 years.

THAT is the truth and the unbiased view.

You all want to keep going back to what I said about last years team, that shit is over and done with get over it. They got blown out ATS all season so they definitely werent nearly as good as people thought they were because teams that are under rated dont go 30% ATS.

This team is the one that matters. Like Is aid this next year will probably be worse than last year because a lot of people didnt really expect much from that team and in some ways they did over achieve, but they also are the Lakers and some people expect them to win by just walking on the court.

What are you all going to be saying if Howard cant play Lakers get in as a 6 or 7 seed and then have reality set in?

Lakers have some big names sure, but they dont have anything worth trading away they actually still own. They dont have any draft picks and the younger talent they have arent anyone anyone else would want, and the guys they have gotten the past couple years are trash heap guys they probably couldnt give away.

    Lakers roster for 2012/2013....

    Kobe Bryant
    Steve Nash
    Pau Gasol
    Dwight Howard
    Ron Artest
    Josh McRoberts (for now)
    Steve Blake
    Antawn Jamison
    Chris Duhon
    Devin Ebanks
    Jordon Hill
    Earl Clark
    Darius Morris
    Andrew Goudelock

their payroll is 98 million this season, 15 million more than the next team brooklyn who is spending 83 million. Do you think that team has that much value?

Then start looking at pieces they can move or people might want in case they do want to make a move mid season. Then look to after the season if or WHEN Howard leaves and take his name off the list what names on it are worth anything?

By Comparison the Clippers who are spending 61 million this year have ...

    Chris Paul
    DeAndre Jordon
    Blake Griffen
    Lamar Odem
    CAron Butler
    Grant Hill
    Eric bledsoe
    Ronnie Turiaf
    Ryan Hollins
    Chauncey Billups
    Willie green
    Jamal Crawford
    Travis Leslie
    Trey Thompkins

When you look at the two lists it ie easy to see what team has more possibilities in terms of moves they can make. Helll Clippers could actually sign Howard if they wanted to which might end up being the big story out here before all is said and done. Jordon is a decet center and he and Griffen are buddies but he isnt andrew bynum nor is he howard (assuming howard is healthy) and howard can play his game a lot better with the clippers than he can with the lakers. Clippers are on the hook for 21 mil next year if they give Chris paul a max out deal and around 18 mil that gets them to just under 40, howard at 19 or 20 gets them to 60 which is where they are this season. So they would then have Griffen, Howard, de andre jordon (who prob gets moved and makes 11 mil)Paul, caron butler, grant hill, eric bledsoe, travie leslie, and trey thompkins all signed and sitting at 60 million, (less than 50 if they lose jordons contract). Give lamar a mid level, keep some of the other pieces for near what they are making this year and you could have most of this team and howard for around 78 million.

But that is after this season, laker guys have to worry about this season which is literally an all in season for them, which is starting off already in a bad spot since it is no telling when howard plays.

I was shitty when I posted that so I'll take a pass on the one comparison but Malone was 13/9 which is a bit different than 11/8 and you think Gasol will continue to maintain his ppg with this roster while getting more rpg than his career average even though he will be playing with the best rebounder in the nba. Maybe you were drinking too?

All titles count the same, but the heats title as about as unimpressive as one can be. In fact, considering it was a shortened season, it is safe to say that it is the least impressive and least meaningful Nba title ever won. Better than not winning... But still.

If anything, the shorten regular season was tougher. Playoffs, if I remember correctly, were the same length.

Just a excuse for the haters out there that don't like Lebron or the Heat. If it was the Bulls winning the title, you wouldn't be saying sh!t about the shorten season.

I think Pau's ppg will not change much with the addition of Dwight. But ya probably the rebounding might dip as Howard gobbles up rebounds.
Lakers 1st in defensive rebounds and 2nd in rebounds for 2011-2012? http://www.hoopsstats.com/basketball...nkings/12/13/1

Think they will be 1st in both categories for this upcoming season and shift from 9th in offensive rebounding to top 5.

2011-2012 Average Field Goal Attempts (FGA)
    23 FGA Kobe
    14 FGA Pau
    13 FGA Howard
    9 FGA Nash
    7 FGA MWP

    23 + 14 + 13 + 9 = 66 FGA

Looks like at least 41 games they had 81 or more FGA, so that would leave roughly 15 for the remaining players on bench or to further divide among starters.

The funniest part of this thread though has got to be the OP. Goat continues to prance around the forum thumping his chest about how he picked 2/3 of the past NBA winners <-----lol. Dude picks the heavy preseason chalk Lakers in '10, then the even heavier preseason chalk CHeat in '11, & the ridiculously heavy preseason chalk CHeat in '12 & now he's claiming he's a genius for picking the obvious best team in the West in '13?? Seriously dude, u are not a genius for continuly picking the chalk to win strait UP so please stop acting so.
It wasn't chalk. I took the Heat at +200 before the season for a G to win the championship. That doesn't sound like chalk to me.

I took LA to beat BOST 4-3 in 2010. Did anyone else on this site call that? No.

no sense to talk to these guys, or cite past history. I had about 8K on Florida Marlins to win the National League pennant a few years ago. made more money on that than most guys have ever thought about winning. hell I had most of it in and was posting at covers and the RX for people to jump on them as they were still 50-60 to 1. A few guys did it. All that stuff was documented on every forum in forumville but even after collecting nearly 260K (after I pissed away a lot on the cubs for insurance) is is an irrelevant point. People dont care about that.

This forum is about who has predictions that come true they really dont care about who wins money. Unles of course it is some make believe poster who hit a 10 team parlay at some shit book that advertises here.

ATS has NOTHING to do with an actual NBA record. NOTHING. One thing is the actual sport and the other is gambling on the sport.

one thing i agree with is that if the lakers don't win it this year and howard decides not to resign, things suddenly look very grim.

they'd have to then do a marlins-like massive fire sale dumping all their old stars to contenders for draft picks (low 1st rounders at best).

It is so humorous how people think Dwight is just a "tad" bit better than Bynum. Dwight is the most dominant big man the NBA has seen since the prime of Shaq. Dwight single handedly took Orlando to the finals. Bynum probably wouldn't be able to single handedly take a weak team to the playoffs.

Lakers were 41-25 in the regular season, I said if they stayed healthy they could win 38 games. So I wasnt that far off. I think my 'prediction' was 32-30. But that was assuming guys got hurt and they had a 'normal' season. Also if you read the first line I said AS IS, they made changes, they improved during the season personnel wise.

So in the end they won 3 more games that I thought they possibly could. But like I said they over achieved and bynum played like a stud and didnt get hurt. They were the only team to not have a significant injury. And no, Kobe resting the last couple weeks of the year with some phantom thing didnt count as an injury in my book.

yay great lakers werent a lottery team but they played like one versus the spread. thats all that I care about in the end.

Speedy is right Bynum is a loser that has absolutely no chance to lead a team to a title. Idiots on ESPN trying to argue Bynum is more skilled that Dwight. GIve me 5 minutes on ESPN first take and I would put those "analysts" to shame.

you guys watch ESPN too much. Howard couldnt carry shaqs jock when shaq was in his prime. Howard looks good playing against converted forwards and standing around in the paint grabbing rebounds. Offensively Bynum was and is a better player than Howard, especially in the post. When he was used correctly and got into the game bynum was as dominant as they come. I am not a big bynum fan but his upside at this point is more than howards. regardless of what people think. Bynum already had his injury and he proved he got past it, last year was the test and he passes it. Howard just had a back issue, far worse than what bynum had, and is showing that even months after the surgery he wont be ready for the season opener, that is still 4 months away. So if they can say 4 months from now he wont be ready then how much longer after that will it be? he had the surgery April 21st, that was 3.5 months ago, so about halfway from then til the start of the season, so 7.5 months out he still wont be ready? So they can say now that in 4 months he still wont be ready, then how can he say (like he has) that his health is great and is strong and he is ready to play, but wont rush it until he is 100%.

So if they can say now that 7.5 months after this procedure he wont be ready then that isnt a good sign.

No. Howard is gonna take over that franchise once Bryant leaves. He's gonna resign no matter what. Even if they fail in the WCF or the finals. Bryant can be very convincing.

    Want,

Bynum is no where near Howard as an overall player and I'm not even gonna waste my time debating that. It's not even close.

we will see, bynum without kobe might flourish and become a dominant guy. Should see him do great in that conference. So if he starts putting up numbers better than howard then what? If Howard cant play and ends up like Alare Stoudamire (similar surgery) it makes it even worse.

You guys just look for the best possible outcome, you might be sad if it all comes out the way I thin kit will.

But if you dont think he takes over for kobe then what the hell did they get him for? Assuming he is going to be healthy going forward.

It's not only about numbers. Dwight is a defensive monster. There's no comparison. Bynum dick rode Kobe to 2 rings and he contributed nothing. Bynum will never win another ring. Book it.

LMAo if it werent for Bynum Kobe wouldnt be with the lakers right now. Funny how people twist stuff around.

I can also say if not for Pau Gasol Kobe bryant wouldnt have sniffed another ring either, without bynum, jackson, and Gasol Kobe was playing and leading a sub 500 team for 3 seasons.

Bynum was a fukkin bum when they won in 09 and only played 2 good games in 2010 when they beat Bost in 7. Get your facts straight. Bryant was the best player by a mile on the court. Everyone said it, even Doc Rivers.

I'm not gonna debate this win you. Jordan never sniffed more than 1 playoff win without pippen. He couldn't even get over .500. Not even once.

LMAO you laker guys are all the same and everyone is going to bury everyone on this forum, you guys need to come up with a new catch phrase the only thing that gets buried around here are you guys who dont know how to gamble.

Its 4 months til the start of the season you guys better worry about howard being able to play and stop counting on what happens next yeara nd beyond.

Bynum wasnt used correctly even by Phil, who was/is notorious for not playing young guys anyway. When Kobe wants to control everything it is hard for other guys to do anything, the fact Bynum did what he did is a testament to how good he was (when motivated). Kobe drove 3 (4 if you count phil when he left the first time)hall of famers out of LA already, he has a chance to drive two more out before all is said and done. Assuming Howard is healthy enough to finish out his career.

I am done talking about this because it is all speculation right now.

What I have said takes no speculation. Howard wont be ready to play on opening day and Bynum will that right there makes this move a lot less than what people think it is.

I can see them winning the West, but how will they guard the Heat lineup with Bosh at C?

    Wade
    Allen
    LeBron
    Battier/Lewis
    Bosh

that's a tough lineup to stop. Dwight can't guard Bosh one-on-one, and you don't want Dwight leaving the paint area. Having Bosh gives LeBron/Wade good spacing and opens up driving lanes for them to penetrate at will. How will the Lakers stop this, that's my biggest concern.

Goat seriously?? Miami was preseason chalk. They were the odds on favorite to win the whole thing two yrs in a row. That is chalk sir. Doesn't matter if they are -200, -2000 or +whatever. They were the favorite going in. That is chalk. Just like the Lakers were preson favs as well. You said you picked the NBA champion before the seson started 2/3 yrs now you say it was before game 6. Make UP your mind. Which one was it. Now you think you're a genius for telling us the heavily favored Lakers will come out of the West. What a genius.
Please stop thumping your chest for picking the best team yr after yr. You are not a genius for realizing the odds on favorite is actually gonna win.
Anybody can pick the favorite to win strait UP bro. There's no added credibility when you do.

Bryant81 makes a good point. Its not gonna be easy to match UP w/ that Heat line-UP. No matter what team they roll out there Howards gonna get drawn out of the too & clear UP lanes. The Heat are gonna have to contend w/ Howard as well though & will struggle to match UP too. Adjustments will be key.

Gasol is gonna guard Bosh. Howard will be free to clog up the paint.

that's a tough lineup to stop. Dwight can't guard Bosh one-on-one, and you don't want Dwight leaving the paint area. Having Bosh gives LeBron/Wade good spacing and opens up driving lanes for them to penetrate at will. How will the Lakers stop this, that's my biggest concern.
Weems and Artest are there for a reason. So are zone defenses.

So Howard is left to guard Battier who camps out @ the 3 point line?? With that specific Heat line-UP on the court it creates match-UP problems.

What do you mean before game 6? I came out and said before each season started who would win the title. 2010 i said LAL. 2011 I said MIA. 2012 I said MIA. I made guarantees in 2011 that mia would win the east and a guarantee that they would win it all in 2012 unless Howard went to LA.

No, noobs on this site did not call that. Everyone on this site wants to try and be sharp and pick some fukkin team like the Portland Trailblazers to win the title at +4500.

I breakdown the game, convey coaches schemes, matchup analysis--no one else on this site does that.

I know the game upscope. I've been posting in the nba section for a while now. I sent many long-time posters here that were once authorities on the NBA packing after they saw my predictions unfold the past 3 years.

Alfalfa and PickWinnersAllDay and many others made statements about MIA that I can pull up. How many big time posters on this site said James will never win a ring?

LOL then when MIA actually wins, it's, so what--they were the favorite, they were supposed to win.

Covered from all angles. No worries.
