Don't get married. It's fine when you're younger, but when you get near retirement, a divorce can rob you of your pension and 401k. I know a guy that was happily married for 20 plus years, then as he was getting near retirement, his wife asked for a divorce and took half of his pension and half of his 401k. He went from preparing for retirement to realizing he would have to work until the day he died. He saved for 30 years puting all his extra money into his 401k and keeping a job he hated just so he would have a good pension. Then poof his wife asks for a divorce and it's all gone. Now he lives with his 80 year old mom.

Don't get married. You may be happy now, but if your wife suddenly wants a divorce when you're near retirement or in retirement, say goodbye to your pension or 401k and you'll be working again. I'm never getting married. I want to have my full 401k and pension when I retire!

Marriage is just a piece of paper; better to have one of those common law marriages with nothing official. I saw that video when Bobby proposed. The woman was reluctant. Her kid was there with the ex and it seemed trashy. He could do much better, but I don't know if he believes that. Maybe he thought this was his only chance. I can see why he did it.
