#3An exchange is a platform for bettors to offer and accept bets with eachother. Instead of winning or losing, the exchange gets a % of the action (sites differ on how it is calculated)
This usually leads to better pricesComment -

#4So why not just exchange bet? Also, how much better in general would the prices be?Originally posted by TheCentaurAn exchange is a platform for bettors to offer and accept bets with eachother. Instead of winning or losing, the exchange gets a % of the action (sites differ on how it is calculated)

#5For one thing, the big exchanges like Matchbook and Betfair aren't available to US residentsOriginally posted by BallerholicSo why not just exchange bet? Also, how much better in general would the prices be?
Liquidity is also an issue, and unless there is good action offered on both sides many times the odds aren't better than books
Another issue is bets offered. Usually for example with football there is only a spread, moneyline, and total on an exchange, whereas books like 5dimes have halfs, qtrs, longest fg made, etc.
How much better the odds are is really hard to say, it varies greatly. On a football spread that's -110/-110 at a book you'll probably see -103/-103 not taking into account commission. Moneylines can be quite a bit better, for example if the best book odds were -450 you could see -410 or something like thatComment -
