Just had a double hernia surgery a week ago, no insurance of course, $1900 hospital and $4100 for doctor. Tried to work a cash discount but no dice.

Canada's is the worst type - there are no private clinics, and the insurance is provided by the government. Canadians have absolutely no choice. If Obama does implement it, I hope he looks at Europe, which at least allows private provision

Do you work in a hospital, medical field or are you
      just mean-spirited!!

When I was younger I had an ingrown toenail cut out - out family doctor did it in his office.

Now this was about 16 years ago, but, I was not on my parents insuance at the time and when the doctor asked how we were going to pay my dad was planning on paying cash then and there.

Looking it up the medicaid book said the procedure should cost about $250-$300, with up paying cash he charged us $120 - and gave me a couple free painkillers from his sample stash.
