BIG LOSS: Brook Lopez academically ineligible
This is a huge loss for Stanford this year guys.

STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford 7-foot forward Brook Lopez will not play for the Cardinal in the fall quarter after being ruled academically ineligible, the university announced Monday.
You just can't replace this type of size and scoring production numbers. Last year he average about 12ppg, 6 boards, like 2-3 block shots a game.

They gave this guy as much slack as they could, but I guess enough was enough Doc. Heres the latest news on Brook Lopez today.

Already ineligible, Stanford 7-footer suspended indefinitely

STANFORD, Calif. -- Brook Lopez, a 7-foot sophomore who was already academically ineligible for the start of Stanford's season, has been suspended indefinitely from the team for missing classes.

In a story Friday in the San Francisco Chronicle, coach Trent Johnson said Lopez missed two days of classes and one practice this week, prompting the suspension.

The suspension went into effect Thursday. Lopez will not be able to practice or participate in any team activities while serving the suspension, Johnson said.

According to the Chronicle, Johnson said he will reassess Lopez's situation next Friday. If Lopez shows acceptable progress and meets his academic obligations, he will be allowed to return to the team.

Lopez, who will sit out the Cardinal's first nine games, averaged 12.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 25.2 minutes last season. He played in 26 games, starting 18, after being slowed early by a back injury. Named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman team, Lopez opted against entering the NBA draft.

His twin brother, Robin, also plays for the Cardinal.

Looks like Lopez was allowed back to at least practice with Stanford, but he's still will miss the first 9 games.

          Heads up fellas...

Brook Lopez was cleared and will play Wednesday.

Stanford sophomore 7-footer Brook Lopez was cleared this morning and will play Wednesday against Santa Clara.

Cardinal coach Trent Johnson confirmed to FOXSports.com that Lopez, who sat out the first semester due to academics, regained his academic eligibility was given the go-ahead to play shortly after 11 a.m. PT this morning.

Johnson was hopeful that Lopez would be cleared in time for yesterday's exhibition game against the College of Idaho, but he didn't receive the official word until this morning.

Lopez was ruled academically ineligible for the fall quarter on Oct. 5 and was limited to practice only. He missed nine games for the Cardinal (8-1).

Lopez averaged 12.6 points and 6.0 rebounds as a freshman despite missing the first five games with a back injury. He is considered one of the top players in the country.

          Stanford is 8-1 without Lopez.
