#4hes not a moron they were not that good. their record was inflated by favoring refs all season. and the NCAA did what they could to get them to the final 4 as well. they needed at least one prestigious program in it............but once in the final 4 they were on their own and you could see in the final game without the refs help they needed a lot of luck to beat butler. if howard hits some of those shots after constantly getting by zoubek Butler wins it by a good margin. this was the perfect road for coach K to take to get a championship, very fortunateComment -

#5I didn't think they were particularly impressive, but they handled WVU, who controlled UK fairly easily, and UK looked like the "dominant" team to win it after Kansas.

The insanity of conspiracy theorists/haters knows no bounds. Duke's closest margin of victory was 7 for the first 4 rounds, but no, they OBVIOUSLY won because of the refs. And then they were "on their own" in the FF, oh of course. And when they were, they beat WVU by 20 points...
Cal - outplayed cleanly for 40mins
Purdue - tight first half, outplayed last 10 mins
Baylor - outplayed final 10 mins, gave up too many O rbs
WVU - rolled
Butler - close, but seemed like Duke was never in any serious danger of losing
And that's no cake walk, it's probably as tough as you can get, except Butler.Comment -

Don't get me wrong, Duke made me money. I played Butler +7 and Duke ML. I also cashed on 2H Butler +4. I was very happy with the outcome of the game.
But still, back on topic...It was a weak field. Duke had a good run, but they are not a great team.Comment -

#8I agree, duke was a good team but not great!
It was a very weak field this year, duke had the easiest road to the final four. Say what you want cal sucks, purdue wasn't no purdue without hummel. Baylor was the only descent team they faced to get there!
They won it though so you have to give them some credit.Comment -

#11They had a cupcake bracket, but certainly proved themselves - you can't fluke your way through all 6 games. I would agree that Duke did not really look like a dominant team like UNC did last year when they won, but still a great team. I don't buy the favorable reffing argument at all.Comment -

you obviously arent that bright, outplayed cleanly? do they get dirty/shady pts at times, are you implying that? id bet you didnt graduate high school by the way you contradict yourself. Duke is by far the most slanted home team in the nation. you can add another 3-4 pts on the line when Duke plays at home compared to any other ncaa team. how is that not being favored, you dont need to be a conspirist (or hater) to see that its understood in all ncaa circles. and a close 7 pt win is when the refs would assist a team along, not in a blow out lol.....yes they beat WV but thats one game and they hit a very high % of 3's. they never played a team that vegas considered pre-tournament as a top 5 team, thats a very easy road. and the best team they beat was baylor and they needed help from the refs, that is the popular belief on that game

#15I THINK ITS A RESOUNDING YES
THEY MIGHT BE THE WORST TEAM TO WIN THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP EVER
OVER RATED - OVER RATED - OVER RATED
duke should be ashamed with that size advantage they had over Butler
Butler dosent score a bucket for 8 minutes and Duke extends the lead to only 5
Congrats ... they beat a team from the Horizon leauge
WORST NCAA CHAMPS ....EVER !!!
The only good team they beat was Baylor.. and that was with the help of the zebras
Wrong how ?
1) they had the easiest road in the tourney
2) They beat one good team with the help of the refs
3) they beat a team from the Horizon League for the championship...barely
4) No bench .. who ? The Plumlee's ?
Seriously can you compare this team talent wise to past NCAA champs ?
I give them props for one thing and one thing only
Great team defense

#19I have to chime in about my florida Gator squad. They won EVERY tournament game for 2 STRAIGHT YEARS by double digits with the exception of Georgetown (wasn't as close as the final 4 point win) and OSU (won by 9 but really was a blowout). Think about that. They won the SEC tourney by double digits 2 years in a row and beat down 10 tourney teams back to back in blowouts. That team was truly one of the most dominant teams in the history of the tourney. They did it for 2 years straight when we all know how hard it is to win with a bullseye on your back. But to blow teams out of the gym in the tourney? That's unheard of. That team could beat you in the half court, it could beat you with the fast break, full court press, slow, fast, it didn't matter. The team could go inside or outside raining 3's. They totally dominated the paint swatting shot's and swarmed the perimeter.
Then you have guys like Al Horford who's a beast in Atlanta, Corey Brewer who is getting it done in Minny after knee injury, Noah who is the heart and soul of Chicago, Speights doing work in Philly and even Chris Richards making an impact in the NBA. Then you go to Greece and Taurean Green is lighting it up over there.
I don't think you will find these Duke players having the same success Florida or even UNC has had at the next level. This was a good Duke team but a long way to be considered great. I think most of the players have reached their peak in terms of upside. We shall see...Comment -

#21Nah, don't see how you can say this. I think they underachieved some during the season, but it was clear all tournament that they had put it all together. Plus, look how balanced they are -- defense, rebounding, size, shooting, okay maybe not athleticism so much, but they showed they can play any style and play with anyone!Comment -

#22Just like the Olympics, just have to win it during the competition, which Duke did. Everything before and after does not matter. It goes down in the books as champion. If you never won before or never lost a game, those are all meaningless. What matters is did you win on your turn to play for the title. The title has been decided.Comment -

#23Not surprising that the Duke hate continues. I use to hate Duke like everyone else, but this year was different. Not as much flopping and whining from the Dukies. I actually started to respect their play instead of looking for any excuse to blame the refs for favoring them. For the haters it's just drilled into their head that Duke gets all the calls and their overrated, so they watch the games looking for any call they can complain about where Duke got favored. When in reality, you could watch any team closely in any game and do the same thing for them. I don't think some people really even watch the game when Duke plays, they just watch for anything they can bitch about against Duke. Either way, I'm glad they won and Butler lost because if any team has been getting the calls from the refs this tourney it's been Butler.Comment -

haha, is this guy trying to suggest this duke team couldve beaten the 08 kansas team with chalmers, rush, collins, jackson, robinson, arthur, and co.? i don kno wut impresses u so much about this duke squad other than the fact they were able to take advantage of a weak nucleus of no.1 seeds this year. the kansas team of 2 yrs ago would run duke off the court as sorry as im to say it to u, no offense. duke jus got lucky this yr with the lack of great teams out there this year.Comment -
