Back Kansas -10 vs K-State
Game Time: 2/7/2007 9:00:00 PM
By: Tom Stryker
Take the Jayhawks as double-digit favorites tonight when Kansas hosts the Kansas State Wildcats at Phog Allen Fieldhouse.
Kansas State first-year head coach Bob Huggins will be on the bench for his first KSU-KU battle. Rest assured, Kansas head coach Bill Self and the rest of the Jayhawks will be primed to give "Huggy" a nasty welcome to this big rivalry.
K-State (17-6, 6-2 Big 12) enters this contest nice and fat off a 7-0 straight up and 6-0 against the spread run. The Wildcats own victories over Missouri (twice), Baylor, Iowa State, Chicago State, Nebraska and Texas. Respect is certainly given to that impressive run, but it won't be enough to pull me off Rock Chalk Jayhawk in this contest.
At home coming off a straight up loss, Kansas (19-4, 6-2) has been nearly automatic posting a sensational 50-3 straight up record. That's one reason why I like the Jayhawks. Here's another: Conference hosts at Game 25 of the season or less are a sparkling 22-6-1 against the spread provided they are running with four or more days rest, lost straight up as a home favorite in their last game and won and covered as a road favorite two games back. This unique system is actually on a sizzling 15-1 against the spread run dating back to the start of the 2000 season.
The Jayhawks have swiped 32 of their last 33 games against the Wildcats and they've been sitting in Lawrence champing at the bit off their home loss last Saturday to Texas A&M. KU won't let the 16,300 fans at Allen Fieldhouse down this time. Take Kansas.
